Author Topic: I found the man of my dreams tonight...  (Read 975 times)

Well, it happened.   I never thought it would...

I went to the pet store to pick up some rat food for my boys.  We were browsing through the small animal section when I glanced down the aisle and saw him.   I couldn't believe my eyes.   How could I possibly find the one I have been looking for so long in a chance trip to the pet store?  I looked at my husband next to me, the one who has been so loving and faithful to me for so many years.   How would he react to this?

"Honey?" I said.

"Yeah, what's up?"  He replied.

"Look,"  I said, and lifted the lid off the aquarium.  I scooped the little man of my dreams into my hands and said "A dumbo-eared boy!  Just what we have been looking for!"

The wave of giddy excitement swept over us.  It was happening,  GGMR!

"Can we get him?  Pleeeeeeeese?Huh?"

"Well, sure, honey, you earn the money too."  Inwardly, I later found out, he was hoping I would ask that very question.

I found an attendant, and notified him that I was taking this adorable PEW Dumbo home with me.  But wait, what's this?   Let me look at you in a better light little guy.  Is that a patch of beige fur at the base of your tail and beige fur on your ears?   I think it is!   We shall see as you grow up what your markings will be!

I am so happy!!!  I found a dumbo boy just when I least expected it!  I have never seen one in real life and they are even cuter than their pictures.    When I was scritching my Stuart sometimes I would push his ears down and pretend he was a dumbo, but it just wasn't the same.

I haven't decided on a name yet, but Yogi and Sparkey are in the running.   I'll keep you posted!

I can just hear the lush, romantic soundtrack music swelling up as you run down the pet store aisle in slow motion.........to embrace the man of your dreams.    Sniff, I'm a sucker for romance.

Oh, he's such a cutie,  very sweet and curious.   Happy to get out of the aquarium and off of the pine, he loves his little hiding box.   (I am going to have to talk to that store about their pine and see if they will change it.  Does anyone know of any printable articles?)

Thanks for the kind words everyone,  I am going to take pictures and try to post them as soon as I can,  I am sure you will all fall in love with him too!

Life would be so lonely without ratties!

Congrats on your new dumbo.  He sounds adorable.

I used to do that with Mousie, who is a standard ear.  I would push her little ears to the sides and say "look, I'm a dumbo".  hee hee

Now I push Ellie's ears up and say "look, I'm a standard".  The silly little rattie games we play.

How neat for you that it's your first dumbo.  I have 3 dumbos and 4 standards.  I love them all, but am a bit partial to those dumbo ears.

Pet Supplies Plus in Kettering!   They are the only ones I know of that sell the Nutro any more, since Jack's discontinued it.    As a matter of fact, I was going to email you to see if you wanted to help me with my anti-pine/Cedar campaign.  Have you seen what they include in their small animal starter kits?   Cedar with Chlorophyl!!!! It doesn't get much worse than that!

Not to mention that when I asked the clerk if he got the rats from a local breeder, he replied with the fact that their parakeets come fromm a breeder in Mansfield.  What does that have to do with my rat?  Oh, well.  My new baby is much better off now, and when I start harping on them about their pine/cedar, I think they will be a better pet store.  Smiley

awww! seriously cute name!!! I wanna dumbo!!! Haha. i'm off to college next year and taking 8 rats with me... I had a hard enough time convincing housing they weren't really that much of a big deal... I wonder if 9 would upset them? hehe. I'd get a dumbo from my local petstore (oh yes they have one! it just is more than 1/2 dead), but I refuse to buy anything from them ever again. I'm sick and tired of petstores, but at least you rescued your boy! CoNgRaTs!!!!

Tara,
Sorry it took so long to get back with you, we've been extremely busy!  Anyway, let me know what you want me to do and I will try and help you out.  Did you see the Dumbo that looked like a little old man?  He was a beige color and had curly white whiskers.  I want to take him home every time I go there!!!!
