Different coloured eyes?
«
on:
September 03, 2004, 10:37:21 PM »
I just noticed today - actually, a friend of mine pointed it out - that my boy Felix has two different coloured eyes. The right one is red, and the left one is black. I'd seen it before, but always thought it was a trick of the light. After my friend pointed it out, I examined his eyes closely and learned that they really are two different colours. I've heard that pink/red-eyed rats don't see as well as black-eyed rats. Does this mean that he sees alright in one eyes, but not so well in the other? Has anyone else had rats with eyes like this? Maybe this is a stupid question...But I'm bored and curious

Yup, it means he's an odd-eye! Not sure what that means for his vision exactly, but the red eye is usually a dark ruby, which actually has better eyesight than the lighter colored pink eye.

Congrats on your special ratty. Odd-eyes are fairly hard to find and quite popular. Chances are, he has adjusted just fine to his different eyes and I would be surprised if you noticed a difference from your other rats. They tend to adjust just fine to their circumstances.
Good luck with all your new babies,

Odd-eyes are my FAVORITE. I just wrote a breeder practically *begging* her to get me one.
