andrew had had some upper respiratory crap in the past but treatment with baytril had cleared it up. two weeks ago his breathing became so incredibly bad out of the blue. the night before, he was all good. i got home the next morning and he was horrible.

i had one rat in the past who had breathing problems like that, but he lived a good six months with them before he got to the point of gasping and panicking. andrew only had two weeks. i feel just horrible.

my suzie rat, the little lab girl, has harsh lung sounds too now. she'd not been sick at all until this past week. this morning she's terribly congested, too, but with the stress of surgery, that doesn't shock me. she's not working especially hard to breathe.

vet is worried something is going through my rats, but with only andrew sick and now suzie.... i don't know?? (the nekkids did not have significant breathing problems.)

the last rat i brought in here was luggage at the very end of april, so i don't think this is something he could have brought. too much time. i don't think it's viral because that would affect more rats, right?

should i do a serology just to make sure?

maybe it was just run of the mill myco and crappy luck. i don't know. if i lose any more right now i'm going to totally go crazy.

If you don't do the testing and your other rats become ill you will never forgive yourself....i would test.
Good luck with your babies.

Maybe you should do a serology to be on the safe side.
And if it were me, I'd ask the vet about medicating everyone now. Maybe they all should have baytril? I'm not sure- but I would ask.

Hang in there, El.

It could be a fluke......it could be transmiting to the others......at this point who knows.
Nothing would surprise me anymore.   Look at the SDA I had and no source to point fingers at.

I would do the testing to see just to be safe.

There is a possibility that Andrew has a heart problem.

i doubt it was a heart problem. that wouldn't cause lung scarring. when she went to inject him, she said she could feel the scar tissue in his lungs.

snuff had heart disease. his inability to breathe was different than andrew's.

i think i am going to see about having a serology done. not sure who to test though.
