HELP!flour hasen't stopped the bleeding!!!

Yates has ripped his toenail off and its bleeding like hell. We've tried putting cornstarch and wound powder on it but that hasen't helped. we've also wrapped it in some tissue to apply pressure, but its still bleeding. Its been a good ten minuets now and it doesn't seem to be clotting - any ideas?!!!! Its Sunday night and the vet isn't answering!!!

I've never had expierince with this but until someone else comes along heres my advice.
I don't know how long you've help it in the flour for but maybe you should leave it there for a little while? Say a few mintes unless it bleeds excessivley. IT might take a little while to start to clot. If that doesnt work the the only other thing I would do is apply pressure until someone else can giev you help.
Good Luck! Sorry I dont have any toher advice

This happened to my Goblin the day I got him and Roku. It was a long ride home from the humane society, and it was hot, and I was just thinking that the rats smelled nauseating, and when I looked over, there was blood all over the travel cage. He got his toenail caught on a sock I had in there, and it ripped off. It must have taken a good 15 minutes to get to my friend at a pet store, where she helped me clean them up, and by then his bleeding had slowed down, but it bled a little more after that. He was fine, but I was terrified that they had been fighting, or he would be dead before I could help him or something. Don't be too alarmed if it looks like a lot of blood, I'm sure your Yates will be okay!

That's great! Just keep giving him food and water, and let him rest, and I'm sure he'll be fine.

Yup, make sure he's got plenty of water, and high-iron foods (molasses is a good one, if you've got it), but he should bounce back fairly quickly.

I'm glad he sounds like he's ok!
Pick up some "quik stop" or other styptic type of item.
And in a pinch, an old trick is use the tip of a match. (I've used this once, cat nail emergency, and it worked.-dunno how good it is for the animal, but it's gotta be better than bleeding out!)
