My baby plays hide-and-go-seek!

« on: September 21, 2004, 08:16:05 PM »

I have six baby boy rats that need homes.  They will be ready to go when they are six (6) weeks old, on September 20, 2004.  I have pictures of them through day 19 on the site.  I stopped taking pictures on day 21 because I felt that the rats were in need of more person-time, and less camera-time.  If you want a more up-to-date picture of any of the babies, please let me know.

There is one chocolate berkshire with belly spots.  Pictures can be seen here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/chocberk.html

There is one chocolate hooded boy.  Pictures can be seen here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/chochood.html

There is one champagne hooded boy.  His color gets darker as you move towards his tail.  Pictures are here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/chmphood.html

There is one champagne berkshire or self (hard to tell because the color is SO light, but I think he is a berkshire).  Like his hooded brother, the color gets darker as you move towards his tail.  Pictures are here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/chmpself.html

There is one agouti berkshire.  Pictures are here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/agtiberk.html

And, finally, there is one black bareback with various spots (several on his back, one on his tail, and one on his belly).  You can see pictures here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/blckbare.html

Even if you don't want a rat, feel free to check out the adorable baby pictures on my web site:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies
They are organized by day.  There were also two females in the litter, but they found homes when they were just 9 days old.

These are un-pedigreed "rescue" rats.  They are not appropriate for breeding.

Adoption fee is $10 to ensure that no snake owners buy the ratties to feed them to snakes (it is more expensive than it costs to buy a feeder at a pet store, but cheaper than a pedigreed rats).  They come with some food so that you can adjust them to the diet you use without trauma.  All babies are sweet (not bitey).

Adoption contract is here:
http://www.yresim.org/rats/babies/contract.html
Since this is my first attempt at such a contract, please let me know if you see any problems with the contract.  I tried to write the contract in such a way that it ensures the rats will be well-taken-care-of without dictating the proper care (i.e., allowing people to make personal decisions about the way rats should be taken care of).  However, it is possible that I misstated something, or that I wasn't thinking about one or more viable care options, when I wrote it.

My baby plays hide-and-go-seek!

« Reply #2 on: September 27, 2004, 06:01:19 PM »

I'm taking the boy's mom to San Diego on the weekend of October 9th.  So, I can transport them to just about anywhere in the state now.  If you are interested, please PM me.

None of the boys have homes yet.

One girl in San Jose, CA submitted the form on my web site, but I didn't get any contact information, and her last name is so common that I wasn't able to find her in the phone books.  Sad 2

I hate to ask this, but are there any girls in the bunch? I have a female rat looking for a friend and I'm in CA.

There were two girls, but they had homes from the moment that they had a color.  Sorry.  Undecided

The day that their colors became apparent, someone posted to the Yahoo! BayRats list that she was looking for an agouti girl.  I had an agouti girl & a black girl.  She decided to take them both, to keep them together as sisters.  Smiley  Its a good thing, too, because they are especially attached to each other.

I know that Rattie Ratz has an abundance of rats right now, some of them girls both young and old:

Depending on where in California you are located, I may be able to organize a transport.  I might also be able to recommend another, more local, rescue.  PM me with your city, and I will see what I can do.

UPDATE : The two "champagne" boys turned out to be marked siamese!  And the chocolate boys have developed deep, rich coats.

These babies have been handled since they were one day old.

Here are a couple pictures:

For more pictures of the various colors, go to these pages (click on a thumbnail to see the larger image):

I'm transporting rats this weekend, so if you want a boy, you need to let me know ASAP.

I can not include neutering (my vet says they are too young at 7 weeks old), but I can help out by providing you with a cage, food, and toys.

Wow!  Really?!  Shocked 2

Were you able to hold her?  Maybe I was right about her doing better with a man...
