Rats do not do well by themselves, even if you give them lots of attention.  They need other rats to play with, so you'll need to get a pair of females, not just one.

Also, you likely won't find someone who will just give up their cage for you.  Martin's Cages sells good quality cages cheap, or at least cheap considering all the other things you'll need to buy to properly care for a pair of rats, including vet bills.   www.martinscages.com

In chat you said you wanted a female to breed to your male.  If you're going to breed, you shouldn't just get any female, but only a female from a respectable breeder.

Also you posted this in the Flea Market:

i have recently got a baby rat but the only thing i hd to keep him in is a small hamster cage.now he is 3 months and almost to big for. he is so camped in there that i decided to put this add up.im willing to take any old thing thats just lying around somewhere.although im a little short of cash so i dont have anything to pay with wich is why im asking for any old thing just lying around that you are thinking of throwing out.it will also have to probably be shiped if you do depending on where you live.

If you can't afford a cage for the rat you already have, you have no business adopting more rats.
