What cute things do your rats do?

I thought I'd share this funny thing that Piper Akasha does. My desk is right next to my bed, and so she'll always jump right to my bed. But she still wants me to play with her, and she'll make this clear by staring at me from a fold in the blankets, then, when I put my hand down, she'll slowly advance to lick my fingers. But if I move my hand at all, she'll dart back underneath the covers. But then, just a few seconds later, she'll be staring at me again. Eventually, the game will get into the rhythm where she'll dart back under the covers, and then hop right back out to lick me again!
And where is Kaela during all this, you ask? Well, she's still on my desk, dragging my big black comb behind my computer... ::sigh::
Anyway, I thought I'd share this story with you, and ask what cute things your rats do!

Your ratties sound so sweet and silly!
Let's see....
When I eat a chocolate bar, I usually break off a wee bit for my ratties. They usually finish their share before I finish mine. Then they give me this "Mommy, you're really not being fair! Give us more...please?" look. I would obey them in a second if lots of chocolate wasn't bad for them!
Looking forward to hear what other people share!

Jair smiles when he wants something. When he wants to ride with me he hugs my wrist.
My female likes to dump aspen on Jair's head when he's sleeping.

When I stop in my room for a quick visit, I always start with petting Hoss, since he's the dominant rat. Then I'll move to Bouncer. After a little bit, Hoss will put himself between Bouncer and my hand so I'd have to pet him more. So I'll move him to the bottom of the cage, finish petting Bouncer, and then move on to Beige. Guess what? By this time, Hoss is back at the top, and gets between my hand and Being. It's so cute, but the other two give him the dirtiest looks.

my girls are nuts...they managed to hide one of my socks from me for THREE WEEKS!!! I clean their cage all the time, I have NO idea where they were hording it...also, my girl peanut will take a treat into her mouth quickly(she's a grabber =P), then look down through the cage bars as if I'd dropped it, and stare at me for another...I swear my bebes are so so smart
Also, earlier I had taken on my plugs(my my lobes)to oil them, and I have babies on my shoulders and one crawled through my lobe and just kinda hung there for quite some time...I wish I had gotten a picture

Hehe. That's funny.6 Beige does something like that. When I hand him a sunflower seed or a yogie, he'll stuff it in the back of his mouth, and then grab like he dropped it. He'll then look at me and beg for another.

Hmm. Well . . . I have to say that EVERYTHING that my rats do is cute!
Right now, my two little girls are still young (both under a year) and they haven't calmed down yet. So they don't do anything cute cuddle-wise because they're always zipping around all over the place. They are pretty goofy, though, and I laugh at them a lot.
My last rat, Indigo, did the absolute cutest thing in the whole world. She had me so wrapped around her little paw that I would remain prone in an uncomfortable position for a LONG time just so I wouldn't disturb her and end her cuteness.
This is what she did: after several hours of mooching my food, exploring, and chewing new holes in the blanket, Indigo would climb up onto the arm of the sofa and plop down next to my hand/arm. She would fall asleep there because I (always obedient to my rats) would rub her and kiss her just the way she liked. She would end up curled up in the ball of my hand, with her head resting on my fingers and with her body twitching in rodent REM. Priceless.

When all four are out on the futon, they all get petted. But Blaze is the shyest and doesn't really like the petting as much, he'd rather hide while all the others get petted. Well, after a while that they have been out, Blaze will always run up our chests, lick us twice on the lips, then darts back under the covers. Alsmot like "I realy do like you, but I'm I chicken"
And then, if the top of my shirt is partially open Quinn and Thunder will crawl on in. Well if it's against my skin, Quinn won't bother. But Thunder? He takes his little hands and pulls my shirt back to creep on in. Of course, my husband thinks this is hilarius...
And of course a million other things that my boys do is cute....

Just last night, our new Dumbo Rex was being very cute. We're using newspaper to line the bottom of the quarantine cage (yes it's the safe kind). She started pulling up one corner with her paws. Then she would stand behind it and fold it over. She'd start walking toward the other corner, and the newspaper would come back and fold over her head. So she'd push over a bigger chunk, and a bigger chunk... It was just too funny to watch the exasperated look on her face everytime the paper would come back and cover her up. LOL

Where do I start. They all do cute stuff. Blue gets her treats on the top level in her cage and she LOVES soy nut crunchies. I give her one and she will turn and drop it off the shelf and look at me like Oh no, need another and then she does it again.
Slinky Malinky likes to hide under the ladder to the next shelf and when her sisters or brothers run buy she grabs at their tail and then hides again and looks around like I didn't do it.
Puck likes to sit on the level above everyone else and as soon as someone is right under him he'll jump on them like a flying squirrel. Of course this starts rattie rumbles.
Spooky my big male likes to play hide and seek in his hammock. His is huge so he can really hide in it. He sticks his head out and will squeak. I usually give him a yogie and then he sticks his head back in and pops his head out again from another place in the hammock squeaks again. Thats usually good for another yogie.
I good go on but have I have four more ratties and they all do really cute stuff, those were just the ones that really stuck out in my mind.

Mr. Higgins was funny the other night, he was up on the bed and I was eating ice cream. He decided he was very interested and stuck his head in the bowl, he somehow grabbed a chunk and tried to make off with it. Hubby just rolled his eyes at me as much as to say - look at the mess!! Mr. H. was trying to hold onto his bit of icecream and eat it and of course it was melting everywhere
Hannah and Holley are turning into my velcro rats. When they have their free time in the mornings they like to launch themselves from the arm of the couch onto Mr. Higgins' cage about six inches away, it's funny to watch because they look like someone wearing a velcro suit being thrown at a velcro wall - you know they just stick to the cage. Then they run up and down the bars taunting Mr. H. -- I think he's getting used to it now, he wanders from the bottom to the top and back to the bottom, trying to keep pace with them.

My ratty hammock has a flap so that when it's cold they can climb inside it. It also has a number of rat-made improvements (big holes!) in it.
Today when I walked into the room Aphrodite must have been curious about what I was doing, and she obviously couldn't be bothered clambering over the other 2 rats to reach the entrance, so instead she just stuck her head out of one of their holes.
The funny thing is that it was a really tight fit, and the cute part came when she decided I wasn't doing anything interesting and tried to pull her little head back in through the hole. It was so gorgeous watching her scrunch up her little eyes and squeeze her head back through again!

Oh I have so many cute things to share. hmmm which ones........
Maggie likes to sit where the dinner bowl goes around the dinner time. She'll lay there and hang her head with this "I'm so starved" look until I show up with the bowl.
Mousie does many cute things but she is my shirt diver. When she was a baby, she could bolt up my front and be down my shirt in a flash. So fast that I could never stop her. Now she just gives me the "look" and I know it's coming. She also has a favorite spot when out for playtime, she will climb on this shelf and lay there watching tv. Mousie also HAS to have some of whatever I have for desert. She loves to climb right in the ice cream bowl and go for it. If I pull it up out of her reach, she will try to launch up to it and hang off the side.
Ellie is the greatest at giving the "oh mommy, can I come out" look. She is always so eager to see me and get loves. Ellie is my typist. I don't mean that in the keyboard sense. She eats her nutro's dog food in a way that sounds just like typing. We have a bowl of dry food for them in our room for playtime. All of a sudden you'll hear this little rattie letter being typed :-). My hubby looks at me and says "Is Ellie belly typing a letter again"?
Bailey will rub her teeth on you if she wants you to move out of her way (and it hurts, so you'll move).
Abby is my hopper. She gets sooooo excited that she hops all over the place. She also is the tail snake wiggle champ. She will be all wound up, then stop, stare off into space and her tail will go 100 miles an hour.
Ok, I'll stop, but I could go on and on about all the cute things my ratties do.

Princess #1 (all 3 are named princess by my daughters, we are trying to come up with middle names other than #1,#2, #3)
likes to stand at the cage door when I open it. I will be giving fresh food or putting in fresh tissues and she will just stand there and I will push her back and she will run back to the door and sit on the ledge (like a balancing act) and just look around like " Im waiting do you love me or not" So when I try to close the door I have to push her away fast. She doesnt try to clinb out, just sits there with her back to me or she turns around in circles. Youd just have to be there its cute when she does it
Princess #2 runs and hides in her ferret tunnel and peaks out at me.
Princess #3 is in her own cage always trying to bite me.
She is expecting any time, but I think she looks so cute right now, she is laying on her back sleeping with her feet up in the air, I could just
her!! she looks so uncomfortable.

This is what Midori did the other day.
I was eating ice cream, and of course Midori's hanging off the cage being the desperate her desperate self. (as for other girls, they can really care less what I'm doing
)
So I got a little ice cream, on the plastic spoon I was using, and Midori thought that it wasn't enough for her. SO she took the whole spoon from me!
I never got my spoon back...

I've got an old PC on my dekstop that Jason likes to play in. At first I was afraid that he might hurt himself, so I removed a bunch of the cables and such. It's not plugged in or even connected to anything.
But he likes to climb inside it and poke his nose in the little nooks and crannys! Then he'll climb to the top and sit on the old CD drive and look out the top at me while I'm typing on the new computer. He's got his own little "play fort."

Sometimes I catch the girls grabbing each other by the ear and dragging them where ever that one wants to go! (Did that make sense...kinda had a difficult time putting that down in print...hmmm)
The absolute neatest thing I've seen is this: We have one neutered male in with 3 girls. Anyway, we've got Lightning, Cloud, Rain, and Bubba all in one cage. Lightning is the oldest and dominant female. She and Cloud are pretty much equal, neither really messes with the other. Cloud is younger but bigger! Little Miss Rain, well, she's just a little sweetie, pretty much keeps to herself or cuddles up with Bubba. Bubba is a big ol' wuss! He is so big and squishy, but because of his wussiness, Lightning likes to pick on him. She steals his blankets, food, beats him up....you name it. And he lets her...he's just starting to 'fight' back tho...ANYWAY...that is not the 'cutest' thing...or the neatest...but I had to give you some background....So here is the 'neat' part...I have noticed this on numerous occassions...Lightning will be up on the top level in Bubba's box harrassing him...then all of a sudden, Cloud will appear right between them!!!! She will either push Lightning away or just stare at her till she leaves Bubba alone! The first time I saw that I couldn't believe. Then it happened again. I just think it is absolutely fascinating!!!!! Okay, I'm done rambling.

Just wondering...
Do mothers (with HUMAN children) do this too? Talking about all the cute things their children do, what the kids did today, etc.? Is there a web forum out there somewhere where mothers talk about their children the way we talk about rats?

Well, my rats are very empathic. I got home from a particularly rotten day at school, and took Anya out of the cage. I was holding her in my lap and then she looked up at me with her big red eyes and I let out a huge sigh. She looked for a little while more and then she snuggled herself under my hand and started licking it, like she was trying to groom me. Then she looked up at me again, climbed a little ways up my shirt, and just kept looking at me. I really felt like she knew I was down in the dumps and was trying to cheer me up. I thought it was really sweet

Yup, the babynames.com message boards. I stumbled upon it while I was looking for rat names. It wasn't to MY liking though

I love they way they look longingly at you. Mousie does that too. She will dive down my shirt, then poke her head up and just look at me. :-).
Another cute thing that Mousie does is flirt with the vet. All my girls really love him and I have to keep the carrier door closed in between him looking over each one. Otherwise, they all come barreling out and up his dr.s coat.
Mousie is definitely the biggest ham. She will squeek and sqawl like he's hurting her, then start licking his hand, giving him kisses. He said "Awe Mousie, are you licking me"? I told him "She's flirting with you and giving you kisses"..
She is sooooooo obvious. Little harlett

It sounds like everyone out there has adorable rats! They always find some cute little way to charm their people. Although I wish I had a rat as empathic as Anya. My first rat was like that. I miss her so.
Mine do many cute things. For one, they will hop on my shoulder and wait. When I say "Up up up!" they'll stand up tall for a yogie. They also have a security blanket (an old pillow case they chewed half to death) which we give them when we clean their cage or when we travel. Ratties in blankets are always cute. Espeically when Dot, who's mostly black with a white nose, pokes her snffer out of a little hole just to smell what's going on.
I think the cutest though is the tug of war tissue game. This is where Dot runs back and forth through an old Fed Ex tube from their cage to the couch. We hold a tissue above her and sh;ll stnd up and bit and tug at the tissue until she tears off a peice. Then she races back and stuffs it behind the cage. She'll get running back and forth so fast sometimes that the tube bounces.
The only problem? Cookie doesn't like it when the area behind the cage is cluttered with tissues. She used to go along and push them all off the table! Now, while Dot plays tug of war, Cookie industriously moves all the tissue bits into the cage for extra bedding. Only she's not as good at carrying them as Dot, so she's always stepping on the tissues and stumbling, which is just adorable! Wow, sorry for the rambling.

Oh I just thought of something else!! When I pick them up and they get anywhere near being upside down, they'll spin their tails around really fast like a helicopter...it's so funny!! Anybody else's rats do this?
