If worse comes to worse can you take her and perhaps find a rescue? If a transport can be arranged to Missouri I could most likely take her. But on such short motice someone who can adopt may not be able to read this tonight.

If she can hitch a ride on a transport coming here (are there any coming to MO?) then I will most likely be able to take her. If not a rescue around you (I noticed Lollypop Farm is in Rochester too) might be able to take her in if a transport cannot come here. What's her story? Why was she dropped off? Is there a chance she could be pregnant?

she is five weeks old, but was dropped off with a large male, i think they were dropped off specifically for the girl to feed them to her snake..so i guess she could be pregnant, unfortunately the girl has decided that she will defiantly feed the male to her snake..but since i was looking for a rat they decided to call and see if i wanted the girl...

DJM someone will be emailing you and will hopefully be getting in touch with some people in the AM about taking the girl, at least for a little while.

If transport can be worked out to Indiana then we can Q her and hold onto her for Heather in MO. It's a long stretch but if it's possible, we're there.

God, I don't know if I can take a female + babies if she is pregnant. Someone would have to have an emergency spay done before she comes to me. I cannot take in 12 or more babies.
Edit- I will of course pay for the spay but I don't want to wait until the babies are formed and have an abortion done to kill them. Figuring the male just mates the female tonight or yesterday (depending how long they were together) the babies haven't developed any I don't think. But yes, she will need to be spayed before coming to me at my expense.
Edir2- I still don't trust the situation. If the person is irresponsible enough to just drop them off then who knows, maybe they were kept together and then brought to the office in seperate containers? My mind is a bit more at ease but I would still like her spayed ust in case unless you can get in touch with the person and confirm the female was NEVER in with the male.

If all of those plans fall through I could take her and hold onto her for a while, I have a few friends who were interested in getting a rat and maybe they'd like her. I'm in Rochester, also.

DJM- Melina already has arranged for a transport to her where she will be quarentined and then she will come to me. I don't think a spay will need to be done.. it'll make things more chaotic. I just hope she is not pregnant. Did the plan for her to go to the nature center and then to Heather fall through? I will take her.

Heather who used to live in Rochester is going to pick her up I thought. Did she not contact you yet? She only lives 20 minutes from Melina and Melina is going to hold her for me (she'll be in q-tine there too since my dad's house is 40 minutes away and I prefer to have her with a fellow rat lover).

maybe that is who the nature center thought was picking her up and got us confused ?..do you have heathers e-mail so i can confirm that she will be getting her from the center?i got a call from someone this morning, they gave me the nature center numberm but i am not sure who it was, we were both very tired, but she was in a different time zone so i don't think it was heather.

Heather is in Indiana. It was probably her that called. Talk to Melina about it, she'll know more than me since she talks to Heather.

Ok everything needs to get straightened out before this turns into a HUGE mess Wink.

I knew of someone in Indiana who used to live in Rochester, so I talked to her to see if she knew of anyone that could take the girl. She said she'd contact the nature center in Rochester to see if they could take her in for awhile. *I* said that I could take her and quarantine her for Heather in MO *IF* transport could be worked out this way. HOWEVER I have never said that transport was already worked out. To my knowledge, no one is going to Rochester and back to deliver this rat. HOWEVER considering there are some people closer to Rochester interested in this rat, perhaps something could be worked out with them. I highly doubt a transport can be worked out to get this rat 8 hours west of Rochester. I said IF we could work it out, we could Q her for Heather in MO.

Did I make that clear enough this time? Wink

Ok now the current situation is that the Nature Center can hold onto the rat for a few weeks as long as a temporary cage and bottle is provided. They already have rat food on hand from what I'm being told. That gives you a few weeks to find an appropriate home or foster person for her, such as Indigo or SugarLovesRats.

on a side note, baby rats are born with a not fully open vagina - and for most rats, it doesnt open til after 5 weeks old. so its highly unlikely that a female rat of that age would be impregnated, especially since they havent reached full puberty then.
