The desert coyote with a pet rat.

« on: April 19, 2002, 05:59:55 PM »

Recently, Tuxedo has been gaining red dust-like particles in his fur. It's not blood, but it's not dirt. Anybody know what this might be?

It could be from his saliva when he grooms himself...it's the porphyrin and that's normal, but I'm thinking it could possibly be mites.  You might want to get him checked at the vet.

I've just noticed Mr. Higgins has what sounds like the same thing, - it's not mites, I think it might almost be an oily secretion from his skin.  Are these bits on the underside of his fur and down to the skin?  I don't think our girls have these and I wonder if it's a boy/musky type of secretion.
