I've been looking for a local breeder without any luck.  Blue Dumbo Big Eyes

What i'd REALLY love to find is a hairless male rattie, preferably between 5 and 10 weeks old, so that it would be easier to introduce him to Salem. I could possibly travel, but probably no more than an hour away.

Help, anyone?

I don't know if you'd be interested or not but Kim's Ark has some older hairless males right now in NJ, I'm sure they could try to work out transport to NY.  I usually find it's hard to intro babies to adult males so thought I'd post this up for you.  Here's the tidbit and link :

http://www.kimsarkrescue.org/availrats.html

"URGENT! NINE RATS IN NORTHERN NJ - MANY HAIRLESS!
FOSTER AND FOREVER HOMES NEEDED!

Update 11/3:The five girls have found a wonderful foster home for the time being. The boys are still in need of foster care. They all still need loving forever homes...

These nine healthy rats were owned by a girl who started college this fall and could not take them to school with her. There are 5 females and 4 males. Five were originally from a local petshop and four were from an accidental litter at home. She was told that one of them was a male whose testes had not dropped, when in fact she was actually a girl. After living with the boys for a bit, she gave birth to babies.

Their descriptions:
-Star and Tiny: white female albinos approx 18 months old
-Buttercup: small grey/pink hairless female approx 18 months, had surgery to remove cyst from above eye (no after affects), 'pinkie' slightly deformed (stays straight); she was the one who had the accidental litter
-Bubble: small grey/pink patches, hairless female approx 12 months
-Dusty: small grey/pink hairless female approx 12 months
-Alfie: pink hairless albino male approx 20 months old
-Sprite: pink hairless male approx 12 months
-Peach: pink hairless albino male approx 12 months
-Dime: small grey hairless male approx 12 months, one shrunken eye due to ruptured eye membrane and is blind in that eye

These rats cannot stay where they are much longer and are looking for either a foster home or a forever home. If you can foster a couple of them, or a group of them or all of them of if you would like to adopt them, please contact us today! Their cage can go with them if necessary. Transport is available."

Thank you very much for the info.  Grin Though i'm assuming that they can't be separated?

Oh, and it's easier to intro two older males? Why is that?

Just my experience, the older males can defend themselves better.  Two babies usually go together fine, but I've never had luck with a baby/adult male intro yet, though I do have fights among adult boys, they usually work it out.

I'd contact Kim's Ark and see what they say about separating them, I'd be surprised if they were keeping that many rats together, because that would be a hard home to find.  Wink   They may be able to tell you who the submissive males are and those may be a better bet for your alpha boy.  I've only had problems with adults when I intro two alphas from different cages, if you adopt a submissive boy it would probably go easier because he won't fight with your boy to be alpha.

Kim's Ark has been helpful to me in the past, so I'd just ask them about it.  If you explain that you'd like a more submissive boy to make intros easier with your alpha boy, I'm sure they'll go out of their way to help you, since they usually are more than happy to find a good home.

Every rat I have ever gotten from Pet World has had horrible health problems. I spent more vet money on those three rats than I did on the other nine I have had over the years combined -- and they have also been the shortest-lived rats I have ever had (4 months, 15 months, and one -barely- made it to two years).

Don't even get me started on the Petworld... While they seem to have more of the "fancy" colors and types than other stores around the area, their rats are almost always sick and I suspect that they come from a notorious backyard breeder in our area. When I told one of the employees that they shouldn't keep their males and females together, she told me it doesn't matter because females are always too stressed out to get pregnant. Real nice to know Roll Eyes

And Al's... I can't even walk into that store without a gas mask. I actually had a rat straight from that basement, a breeding doe who was no longer useful. The poor thing was terrified of people, and died not long after I took her home. Amazing how they can even stay in business... (probably from seeling those PUPPIES!)

I live in Rochester, and I can't find a local breeder. Period.

Actually, there's a WONDERFUL breeder in Rochester, who's also a member here. Look up MaryZ in the member list and you could get her contact info.

Yep, you can contact me here, or through my email.  I've just changed it since my old account has been less than reliable.

I took a 4 month hiatus from breeding, but have a couple litters due at the end of the month.

My Pet World girl Escher made it to a whopping 8 months and was sick almost her whole life.

Also, Lollypop Farm usually has rats.
