New baby home...and pregnant???? **NEW PIC AT BOTTOM

well i don't know how many people remember the baby i rescued a while back, but she has been living with indigo for the past few weeks..i just brought her here to live with me at school...she is doing well nothing really seems to bother her. well i noticed that she has a little stomach on her...i though maybe she is just a big eater, however the more i look at her the more she resembles my rat sushi, who i got pregnant from a pet store...she looks like sushi did when she was about 14-18 days pregnant..a slightly round tommy thats very hard. my major concern in her age..i would say shes 8-9 weeks old..we really didn't think she was pregnant when we got her because she was soo young. is it too late for an emergency spay?? i work at a vet office so i can get the money taken out of my checks if i need to...but i would rather not..what are the chances of her and her babies making it?? sushi was about 3 months when she delivered and everything went off fine..but i know each rat is different..i hope shes not pregnant...
she also needs a name if anyone as any ideas...

First of all, you say she's been living with you for a few weeks?? How would she have gotten pregnant? Is it even POSSIBLE? Gestation is 21 - 23 days .... And an emergency spay needs to be done by 14 days along ....

i got her two weeks ago...she has been living with Indago..not me.....i just picked her up from Indago today...we are not sure about her living arrangements before i took her she was dumped at our emergency hospital...we all came to the conclusion that she was not pregnant due to her age..but i guess you never know...

A female can become pregnant as early as 5 weeks. If you suspect that she truely is pregnant, I'd be giving her the best possible food available right now. Not only does SHE need the nutrition due to her own age and growth needs, but the babies too. Unfortunately, this happens all too often, usually when people bring home female rats from the pet stores.

yep thats what happend with my first rat sushi..thought i learned my lesson then...but she was five weeks when she was dumped and they clamed she had not been with a male...i have some soy milk and some higher protein dog food(there all on subees mix)..any other suggestions?...i hope shes not pregnant..if i hadn't gone through this with sushi i probably wouldn't have noticed it this early...but her stomach it looks sooo familiar..i would guess shes right around 14 days if she is pregnant. maybe shes just a fatty..

Yes, I remember her. It is sad to think that she may be having a litter at two months of age, but she should do fine. One of my first rats gave birth at around that age. She only had four, but all were healthy and she was a great mom. Of course, always be prepared for the worst..keep emergency vet numbers on hand, buy a tub of KMR to hand feed if necessary, heating pad, etc. Hopefully it is just baby chub.

ok..she stomach looks bigger this morning...i am really hoping she is just gorging her self on the suebees diet since she never had it before...that could be it right?? she does not seem to be showing any aggression...but nether did sushi through the whole pregnancy.....well in anycase i am prepared for anything here is her picture... she still needs a name! she was about 5-6 weeks there...the dark points on here ears and nose have really darkened she looks like she stuck her noise in chocolate or something

It's hard to tell from those pictures, but from what i can see, it looks like she may just be going through a certain "growth stage". I've noticed some of my babies get a bit pudgy and chubby in the stomach around two months of age, including the males (who can't possibly be pregnant
) . Hopefully that's all it is. Good luck!

You know.. this isn't the first time I have heard rat pregnancy blamed on suebee mix. ;)Thankgoodness none of my rats ever got preggo from it!
I really hope she is just a little pudgy.
Do you have a naming theme? She is so adorable. Pudding? I don't know why that came to mind. Tally? Whiskers?

I wouldn't say she necessarily looks pregger. Most of my healthy youngins go through a chubbo stage. this isn't to say she ISN'T pregnant

She looks a lot like my 8 week old girls and boys and they all have pudgy little bellies.
I hope that's what it is with your little girl too, I really hate to see them pregnant at such a young age.

My new little baby looks just like her! She has a little pudgy belly, but she was so skinny and malnourished when I picked her up... I felt so sorry for her and her littermates. I know mine has been eating a lot, probably never got anything but bird food before. I hope your baby is just enjoying the good eats too!
You know, mine needs a name too. I think I will start a new thread
and post some pics tomorrow.

Daeda and Bea both ended up with big chubby bellies. I think they all go through a weight gain and thin out as they mature. Bea still hasn't thinnned out but atleast I know she's not pregnant.
Your girl looks like she has baby fat.

I'd say you're safely out of the woods. Her 'pudge' seems a bit high for being pregnant. She's just been eating well, evidently! YAY!
