Apollo Pet Rescue, located in the Everett area of Washington has 2 rats availiable for adoption.  "Waco" and "Issaquah" are 5 week old sisters, both dumbo-eared.  Waco is a lavender-blue color with a cream patch on her chest and Issaquah is black with a white belly and paws.  They were owner-surrenders, people bred them and couldn't find homes for them.  We were able to take two, the rest unfortunatly went to snake food before we could arrive to pick them up =(

Both are very well socolized, friendly with people and other rats.  Waco is very friendly and outgoing, while Issaquah will need some additional socolization.  They are currently housed on Aspen bedding and are being fed a rat mix made by one of our voulenters who has rats (its got all sorts of cereals in it).

If you are interested in adopting one or both of these girls, please contact me at Apollopetrescue@aol.com  .  I am currently fostering them and will decide on their placement.

Adoption fee, application, contract and interview required to adopt.  Cage(s) possibly available for an additional charge.

*Pictures availiable but I'm not sure how to post them....*

That is quite a journey. We will be traveling over to Seattle for a Seahawks game on November 21st. If can't find a home by then, let us know, we will do what we can.

These girls are now only availiable to rescue groups for the next 48 hours.  We will be trying to find placement for them ASAP.  We have discovered both to be pregnant.  As we have no long term foster home for them, separate cages, or the ability to find homes for a large number of rats both will be euthanised after 48 hours.

Any rescue groups interested, please reply ASAP.

We still have the (very friendly!) adult hairless male up for adoption.

I posted this info on RatsPacNW, the local NW rat group.  I live outside of Portland, OR.  Hopefully someone there will be able to help.

I've been thinking about these girls all day.  I will take them if you can't find them another home.  I'm in Portland, OR.  I'm also worried at the fact that they are five weeks old, yet showing pregnant.  If they are two weeks pregnant (when my girl started showing) then they would have gotten pregnant at three weeks or so.  I know it can happen but I keep thinking megacolon.  Please look up an article on megacolon and make sure that isn't whats going on here.

Hi,

Thanks so much for the reply.  We have refrained from making any rash desisions atm, as we've had a few responses.  One I am alittle concerned about is a rescue group that says they'll take them, but their adoption fee is $2.50 which sounds alittle too much like snake food to me.  Opinions?  I've never delt with rats before so maybe this fee is normal??  They do have a small application so its not just a take-the-rat and leave kind of thing.

I researched megacolon like you suggested, and I really do not think that is the issue here.  None of the symptoms stick and the photos look NOTHING like what I am seeing.  Also had a rat owner friend palpate them and she reported semi-squishy with some firmness in spots.  Also seeing a definate increase in agression levals between the two, and MY GOD DO THEY EAT!!!!  A big bowl at least once a day, sometimes two bowls a day!!

Also they would be closer to 7 weeks now, or 6.5.  Besides the owner"breeder" wasn't exactly specific on age, she said around 5 weeks or so.  They were the size of mice when they arrived, if that helps...

Anyways, I'll see what happens here over the next few days.  I don;'t think we are in any danger of immeidate delievers so since there is some interest we'll hang on to them for a little while.

Anyways, Portland?  Sounds like a nice little drive- definatly not to far for me.  If it does come to that.  I really appreicate it =)

I'm so glad to hear that they aren't in danger right now.  I'm also glad that they don't have megacolon.  I dealt with that before and it is horrible.  I'd be leary of a rescue that only had a $2.50 adoption fee.  I would definately talk about vet care and what they would do if they had problems delivering, etc.  Anyway, let me know if you need anything else.
