We have two extremely sweet baby black berkshire boys in need of a home. Their names are Paul and George.
These guys are very curious and friendly, and sooo cute! They are also NEUTERED, so they can live with girls as well as other boys. If you're looking to expand your rat family and you have room in your heart for these two youngsters, please contact me or visit Paul and George at the Humane Society.
Here are some pics of the boys!
We're located at 7929 N. Michigan Rd.
Contact me for more info!

Hello, I am in a bad situation, I have never owned a rat before and went to a pet store and seen a loveable white rat and went to pet it, then I seen she had just had a liter of babies, 5. I was told that they were going to be snake food and that Pinkies were in high demand, needless to say I took home the Momma and her 5 babies, hoping I could find them homes, I have posted on a couple forums, had one response in Ky, and havent heard back from them, they are now going to be going on 4 wks soon, drinking and eating on their own, having a hard time finding them a home, they are so sweet!, do you work at the humane society, I didnt know they took rats, any suggestions on what I could do, I have contacted some schools to see if anyone was interested in having them as a room mascot, I hate to say it but I might have to take them to a pet store, I feel like I am sealing their fate, I cant keep all the babies, I will keep the mom, figure it would be harder finding a home for her. My name is Cindy and I am here in Indpls, close to the airport, any suggestions?

Hi,
We do indeed take rats at the Humane Society of Indianapolis. How many rats do you have in all? Six? Are you going to keep any?
I would say bring your rats to us, but unfortunately, I'm the only one at my shelter that really knows rats. I only work once a week, and I bring the babies Harlan blocks when I work. Since we already have eight, we're kind of full up on ratties... BUT, that said, we have had more than that... it is just extremely difficult to find them homes. Also, (trying not to be morbid here) we ARE a kill shelter. We generally wouldn't have to put rats down for space, but they did try to put rats down that had supposedly bitten (I'm betting they probably nibbled- I ended up adopting them). Anyway... it is up to you. I can try and help in any way possible.
Have you contacted vegan_rat (a member here)? She runs a rat rescue, too. I know she was VERY full up on fosters, but she may have had some adoptions.
Not to be rude, but I personally would try to stay out of pet stores from now on.
Best of luck to you and your ratty babies!

Well, AuntieCrazy has fallen in love with Paulie and Georgie, but she lives in MA wheras the boys are here in Indianapolis!
The trip from here to there is 14 hours (28 hrs round trip).
Thank you sooo much for your offer to help, tabbyrat! As always, it is MUCH appreciated!
However, I don't think you'll want to do all 14 hours on your own... so is anybody else along the way willing to lend a hand? AuntieCrazy told me she is able to drive part way.
Let me know, and thank you, everyone.

The boys have found a loving home with FOUR girls to live with!
That should be fun!
