Claire,
I do rodent rescue and I know how hard it is to get your hopes up. I'm so sorry about your preggers girl, But like the others said Go back and CHECK to see if she's still there. Someone might of taken her back, Your dad could of over-looked her. You never know.

Hi everyone - I think I'm going to ask my dad to take me back to the store tomorrow, just to check in and see and possibly leave our name there in case she is sent back - you never know.  The store itself is a private buisness so the owners recognize us a bit - hopefully they'll know what we're talking about *crosses fingers*.

Great to hear from you Lauren!  I PMed you Smiley

Just so you know, some reptiles can smell pregnancy, and will not eat pregnant animals

really?  I did not know that........and that explains ALOT to me too!  when I got Charlotte and Oreo, they were meant for snake food but the snake did not eat them.  They owner returned them to the store....and they were so scared. They would not accept them back so I took them.

About a week later Oreo had 7 babies and a week after that, Charlotte popped out 15!   I bet the snake knew they were pregnant?!

Amazing..........

Just so you know, some reptiles can smell pregnancy, and will not eat pregnant animals.

That being the case, you'd think that the stores would separate sexes even for feeders.

Mm hm, but most likely they are too lazy to realize this (as even many of us didn't know it) and only care about the money - not the animals they are selling.

I went back to the pet store today - just to check to see if the girl was returned somehow.  The small cage was FULL with new rats (all maybe 4 weeks old, far too young and small).  They were a really curious but did not want to be held.  So many different looking ones - a couple masked, blazed, varigated, double rex, rex, beige, hooded, dumbo eared, standard eared, capped, etc.  I could go on for ages.  One boy was adorable - bigger and squisher than the other babies with a blaze and gorgeous varigated markings, dumbo.  Good thing I only have females right now or he would've ended up in my pocket (no no, I know better than that, lol).  There were at LEAST three dozen babies all shoved into this tiny cage and when the pet store lady started to shut the cage when I was done looking at them, she slammed it shut with her foot (the cage is kept on the floor in the first place).  Ugh that store makes me so mad.  They all were sneezy and sounded like they had respritory infections.  It's unfortunate, really unfortunate.

The pregnant female wasn't there and I don't think that I will ever see her again, but this has been a huge learning experience for me and will stay with me for forever.
