Loki, Minga, Dunja, and Gimpie say hi!

« on: June 19, 2002, 02:13:31 PM »

My name is Emily Carson and approximately two months ago, I made a big rescue and took in eleven rats (for me that's alot)!  From these came three litters of rat pups.  Nine rats have found loving, caring homes.  But there are still many more in need of someone to scratch their ears, talk to them, and feed them treats.   Available rats go as follows:

Unnamed black hooded male.  App. four months old.  Complete hood, surprisingly straight for an ex-feeder.  Smooth coat and sweet personality.  Slight cold.  In the process of acquiring more meds for treatment.  A little skittish, but nothing that hand fed fruits and veggies every night can't fix.

Unnamed black berkshire male.  App. four months old.  Inseparable with above rat, so I would only adopt them out in a pair.  Smooth coat slightly ticked with silver here and there.  He has an upper respiritory infection and I am in the process of getting more meds.  Anyone who takes him in would have to accept the responsebility of medicating him once a day.  A little nervous but just needs a little time to open up.  Both of the above rats are rescued feeders.

Unnamed black broken hooded male.  App. two months old.  More of a teddy-bear coat.  Healthy, very people friendly.  Has been handled alot.

Unnamed mostly white male. Some beige on base of tail.  Red eyes. Teddy-bear coat.   App. two months of age.  Healthy, has been handled and loved alot.  Brother to above rat and therefor the pair must go together.

Unnamed black berkshire female.  App. two months old.  Semi-smooth coat.  Healthy, more jumpy than her brothers mentioned above, but friendly nonetheless.  Lots of handling.

Unnamed black broken hooded female.  App. two months of age.  Healthy, and a little less skittish than her sister (above).  Friendly and lots of pet potential.  Must go with above sister.

Winky.  Female black broken hooded female.  Anywhere from one to two years old.  Winky needs a special home that understands her.  She was a rescued feeder-breeder and pregnancy is all that she knows.  She is a great mom and was so to the four above rats.  She is skittish, but never bites.  Likes watermelon and is a healthy girl.  She needs someone who will spend time getting to know her.

Maxamillion.  Beige self male.  Teddy-bear coat, curly whiskers and eyelashes.  Anywhere from one to two years of age.  He's a very big boy, weighing in at just under one pound.  He has a case of the sniffles and takes his meds well.  Anyone who adopted him would have to accept the responsebility of administering medication once a day.  He is also a rescued feeder breeder from the same place that winky came from.  Though still nervous, Max is much more apt to just sit in your lap and be calm than Winky.  He also needs a special home that will take the time to get to know him.

Shiloh.  Variegated dove-gray female with a smooth coat.  App. five months.  Healthy.  Shiloh possesses a very sweet nature and is completely relaxed when handled.  She has a litter that will be weaned from her in one weeks time.  This rat I wish that I could keep, but I already have enough.  Her docility makes her perfect for a childs pet.  She is a beautiful rat.

Friday.  Black bare-backed male.  Anywhere from one to two years old.  He has a smooth coat.  Healthy, very curious.  This boy will stick his nose anywhere.  Has a bad habit of grabbing fingers with teeth in order to bring them closer so that he can sniff.  He never bites down.  Though more outgoing than his brother, his previous owner (yes, he was abandoned) failed to handle him much.  He is much more content to be pet and talked to than held.

Honda.  Black hooded male.  Anywhere from one to two years old.  He is Friday's brother, and has an almost perfect hood and smooth coat.  He is healthy and much more reserved than his brother.  He does not enjoy being held.  A good ear scratching can usually get him though.  He needs alot of time to adjust to new surroundings.  He and Friday will go together.

Unnamed babies!  Shilohs babies will need good homes soon.  There are two capped, two masked, a solid grey, a black irish, a grey with blaze, a semi-berkshire grey, and a multicolored spotted.  Most babies have red or ruby eyes.  All are people friendly because quite frankly, I can't put them down!      Robin:  Both of these babies are absolutely adorable.  But to me, I guess every rat I see is, hehe.
Looks to me like they are both female.  Both have ruby eyes.  The grey with the blaze is also a berkshire, and the multicolored one is brown, grey, and white.
I didn't really take a good look at the babies before typing my first message, so I just noticed that the multicolored isn't really spotted, it has what could have been somewhat of a brown mask on it's face and a brokengrey stripe down its back with a few little spots here and there.
Let me know if you are still interested, they would be happy to find a good home!

The little gray berk with the blaze sounds really cute.  I'm just wondering how I'm going to get these babies since you are in Bay City.  I'm in Lansing.  I'll talk with my boyfriend and see if we can arrange something.  Just curious, what is the adoption fee, if any?

The adoption fee is $6, not too much.  Just enough to know that they will be safe and sound:)  Sadly, they have come down with a sniffle.  Not bad, but My vet isn't very experienced with rat problems so I will be switching vets for meds.  If you would still like to adopt, you are a reputable rattery so I would let my babies go for free, as long as I knew that you would be willing to administer Baytril for 2 weeks which will do the trick.  Around here I can get 5 cc's for app. $14, I guess not too expensive if it is too much around where you are.  Please, these babies need homes, very badly.  Tell me what you think.  I could even drive to Lansing to meet you (I am in need of a good shopping trip!).    Thanks for the reply.

I'll definitely take them then.  I'd be happy to give them Baytril.  I found a good vet that actually knows about rats and will give me Baytril if I need it at a good price.  They sound like great little ratties.  Oh, how old are they?

Robin:
The babies will be a little over five weeks old at the end of this next week.  I am soo happy that you will take them!  I am trying to think of when would be a good time to drive them to you.  I will have to check with my jobs to see when is best and get back to you.  Now, you will be taking both the grey berk w/the blaze and the multicolored?  I will get back to you about when!
Thank you! Thank you!

Emily,
I'll take both of them.  They sound so cute.  I know I shouldn't take anymore rats, but I'm a softie and can't pass up babies. Smiley  I'll be here just about anytime, so whatever works for you. Smiley

Hey everyone!  Good news:  alot of people adopted the rats that i rescued, they all went ot excellent homes.  There are still some lonely babies left though, and they are:

Two white agouti capped babies.  App. two months old.  They are both female. They came from a wonderful mother who was just adopted to a nice family in Mt. Pleasant.  They are social little girls and love to play.

One white agouti masked baby.  Female.  Sister to above.  Bit of a spaz, but a special best friend and rattie treats should calm this unusual looking dear down.

Dove-gray and white blazed berkshire. Female and sister to the above.  She is the runt, but in good health.  Loves to play like all little ratties do!

Irish Dove-gray female.  Larger than the other sisters above and very happy go-lucky!  A sweetheart.

Solid charcoal female with a spot of white on her chest.  very friendly, handled alot (kind of my favorite).  Sister to the above.
