I've started my own website, and one of my biggest goal is to organize a list of rat rescues that is as complete as possible. I've found that most lists I've come across so far is only partial, many of them out dated with incorrect information, etc and it wasn't easy to find one place that has all the rescues listed.

Granted, it's only a start, but I've already combined a few lists I've found online and have contacted everyone to make sure that all the information is still correct. I'll add onto it as I gather more info, and also plan on contacting everyone in regular basis so the list can be updated as time goes, so this doesn't turn into yet another list that contains too many dead links, rescues that are no longer operating, etc.

In the future I would hope to add rescues outside of the states too, but right now I'll focus on the US rescues only. If you know of any other rescues that are not listed on my site, notice any incorrect information, etc please email me so I can update the page. In order for me to make this list work I would need everyone's help, in gathering information as well as spreading the list out there. If you have a website, I would also appreciate it if my link can be added onto your site Smiley

Here's the main site
www.crittersnest.com (Click on the rat picture on the top right. Rest of the sections are still being worked on)

Here's the link to the actual rescue list
http://www.crittersnest.com/rats/adoption_01.html

Good luck. I attempted to do the same thing and didn't get many rescues.

Thanks Suebee for making it a sticky! Hope that helps Smiley

Rattenburgh, I actually started out with your recent thread, went to your site and did notice that it was rather short still. For some odd reason it seems to be rather difficult to gather all the information on rat rescues in one place, so I've decided to take a slightly different route and gather the info myself first then confirm it. That unfortunately means searching numerous sites, emailing everyone on those lists (and finding out that half of those emails are dead ends), and updating the list as I go. Hopefully this will work!

This information may be redundant to you, but there's supposed to be a rat rescue in Decatur, Georgia. I found a website of a Rattery in Statesboro, Georgia called Pheonix Gate Rattery. I think she intermittenly takes in rescues. I've sent an email to her requesting adoption info. Her website seems current with current litter and upcoming breeding info. You guys are probably already aware of her rattery.
The one in Decatur, Georgia, which is a suburb of Atlanta, Georgia is at www.rattie-express.org. It seems current. I've also sent an email to this site without an answer. I don't know if these will help with your rescue listings!!! What a great thing this will be, because I've searched and searched and have come upon so many dead rescue links and rattery links.

Heatherbee, the link you gave says it doesn't exist Sad

Taku, thanks for the info. I'll definitely look into it. I'd like to contact the rescues first and make sure that they ARE indeed rescuing, so as soon as I get in touch with the person I'll post her info on the site Smiley

Babyblue, can you list us as "Rodents, occasionally other animals"?  Or something like that?  I try not to take cats, yet they always seem to find their way to me Wink You know how it goes.  There is also Tiny Paws Rescue Sanctuary http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/MI441.html and Rabbit R & R around here (both near Detroit).  Dominique is the coordinator of Rabbit R & R, email at dominiquemoroz@yahoo.com and I deal with Dawn at Tiny Paws, email at animalgirrl78@yahoo.com, Rabbit R & R take rabbits and small rodents, Tiny Paws takes small rodents.

Heatherbee, thanks for the link. Email sent and once I hear back from them their info will be on the site.

BadRattitude, I hear you about the cats. Some animals just find their ways to us Wink Your info has been updated and I've sent the emails to the rescues you listed. Thanks!

It looks like this will take longer than expected, mostly just oragnizing and sending out mass emails and WAITING. Getting return emails, delayed deliveries, permanent failures, sending out more emails, and of course wondering if those emails I haven't heard back from are still active. It looks like it'll be yet another task to maintain this site to be current but I'll give it a shot! Wink

Hi Mindy with the RMCA here. I believe the address you have is incorrect, for Furry Friends Orphanage, we are in the process of getting a new PO Box. In  the mean time you can put the contacts of our board members:
Diane Carson     949-631-4513
Debra Newgard  949-770-0323
Mindy Van Neck  714-750-2352

It is ok to list these here, these are our rescue numbers
I will get back to you as soon as we get a new PO Box
Thanks!

Mindy, information is being updated Smiley Definitely let me know when you guys get a new address. Also, what should I list under the animals you guys rescue? Just rats or any other small animals? And the email address I have is still correct?

Actually, the link seems to be:  http://www.crittersnest.com/rats/adoption_01.html  (no capital R on rats)

I've been thinking of doing this forever, but never got around to it.  I'm so glad to see someone taking on this task!  I'll let you know if I find any rescues that aren't listed.

Yes that's the correct link. I've changed it and didn't realize I posted the old link here Grin

I'm having some server issues so I haven't been able to udpate it in a few days. If you've sent me new updated info and don't see it online, don't worry it's been updated on my file I just haven't been able to upload it. I'm contacting the hosting company to figure out what the problem is and as soon as it is resolved current info will be uploaded again. Thanks everyone for all your help! Smiley

Rattie raisins for all!

« Reply #19 on: February 19, 2005, 12:04:38 AM »

Hi,
I am glad to see this resource becomng available. There seems to always be links for the breeders but not much for the rescuers. Thankyou for doing this and keep up the good work. It is quite a doughting task. Wink
As far as GA is concerned, i am only aware of 2 poeple who actively breed and/or rescue - Myself and Tara at Rattie Express. I take in rescues on occasion and Tara does alot of rescue work and a little breeding so we work out well together within the state. I would be glad to give you any other info you would ike about my rattery and what I know about rattie express. Just contact me through my email.
I hope to hear from you.
ps- I really like how the site looks.
