Grace & Lenore

« Reply #61 on: December 19, 2005, 06:24:10 PM »

My birthday present to both myself and the girlies, born November 5th, the day before me: a brand-new Martins R695!

We've changed from a hammock to a hanging plastic basket (much more resilient with my hard-core chewers), and the rats have made their own decorating changes (they like to move the boxes).  Other than that, it's pretty sparse.  After Christmas, I hope to spruce up their cage with some more baskets and maybe some thick climbing rope.

The girly standing up with the big tummy is my Lenore, by the way.

Don't think I've posted to this thread yet.

Here is my girls' aviary - actually two aviaries bolted together, with a big perspex shelf half way down and several corner shelves.

This is my favourite cage, the Rat Shak. It's built of modular panels, so I can change the doors and walls around as well as arranging the insides. I worried that the boys might chew the plastic, but they haven't touched it. I do have one spare panel, just in case. My only criticism is that it could be a little deeper front to back, but as long as they have plenty of mooching space the boys don't mind.

This is where my girls, Betty and Lola live:

It's made by an Italian company, 'Terenziani', and the style is one of their larger ones, called 'Moore'.
I put cardboard down on all the wire floors, and their ground floor is full of 'Safe Pet' paper bedding, which they then carry around and put in their bed boxes. There's a cardboard 'Chube' on the bottom floor as well now.
That's waxed tablecloth material on the wall behind, to cope with pee-splatter etc.
My parents (bless 'em) have another Terenziani cage, two thirds the size, at their place so I can take the girls when I go and stay.

I can't believe I haven't added mine yet! Anyway, here it is:

Its made from an old entertainment center. The top shelf has carpet and their bistro bed:

nair pictured.

The second shelf has some dog toys.

The third shelf has their litter box, and their food bowl

And the last shelf just has a box and a branch for now. I change the interior of the cage often.

The big area might be hard to see, but this is whats in it:

A plant holder

and their wheel.

There is also the girls cage, which is small. But they are only going to be in it til I get my ruud in a couple weeks... then that cage will be my quarantine cage.

Theres is the one on the top of the boys cage..

I have a ferret litter tray hammock, a little metal letter holder I got from a thrift shop.some branches, a hammock, cat toys, and their food bowl.

Look at what our mommy got us Grin  It's a Marchioro Ferretville C3.  It's as tall as our mommy (5').  She said she would post more photos when she finishes decorating.  Something about fuzzy dice.

My boys live here. I have no idea where the cage is made, but i bought it in the "bird department" of the pet store.
I'm fairly happy with it, though the cleaning is pretty hard because nothing kan be pulled apart. But my boys seem to like it. The stuff in the cage varies a little. What you see below is the minimum of what's in it.  Wink

My girls live here. This is my favorite cage: Ferplast Furret Extra Large. (I think that is the name...)
It's easy to clean, beacause of the big openings and everything comes apart.  Grin
Again: There is usually more stuff in the cages.

It's a bit crammed at the moment, so I'm counting on buying a bigger cage. Hope I find one just as easy to take apart and clean.

And this is the cage I have for litters and sick rats. I really love this cage too. A Ferplast Mary I think...

After seeing all the awesome cages in this thread I am sort of embarassed by mine!

I am definately going to be getting more toys very soon!

Not sure what brand it is (it came with my first two ferrets from the rescue) but it works well! Currently Tootsie is the only one living in it (used to be Tootsie and Precious) but hopefully I will be getting two sweet girls from Nashville soon!

A more recent picture of the Monkey Motel's decoration. Currently separated in two because Moriarty and Watson can't live with each other so each day when I clean the cage I switch them. One day they get the large tier and are with PaiMei and one day they get the smaller portion (which is still big enough for 5 rats according to the cage calculator). It's not ideal but it's the best I can do because of the blasted antibiotic resistant strain of myco they have. I can't get any more rats until my last 3 are gone  Undecided

This is my R-695, looking a little empty right now because it as cleaning day when I finally got the camera out so alot of their stuff is in the wash.

Top shelf-My new hammock cube Smiley, usually a hammock and another hanging thing up there
Second shelf-Litter Pan, food dish, wodent wheel
Fourth shelf- Straw mat, usually has a cuddle cup or hammock
Bottom-Pvc piping, igloo, and another plastic house thingy that I dont know the name of  Roll Eyes

Lol, notice the lack of curtains behind the cage  Roll Eyes You can just imagine the look on my moms face when I had to tell her that the nice curtains she sewed me were in a hundred pieces as bedding scattered throughout the cage   Yellow Cute Laugh

You guys have some amazing cages. I always come here for inspiration when I want to redecorate my rats cage.

Speaking of my cage, here it is. It's the Martin's R-695 and it's currently housing 4 rats: 2 intact females and 2 neutered males.

I currently have plastic floor protector down on the levels to make them easier to clean, but one of my girls is a chronic chewer so it's looking pretty rough right now.

As you can see I have many different plastic keyrings and ropes hanging for them, 3 stacking baskets with towels for them to sleep in, a hanging basket (since hammocks get chewed rather quickly), 6 plastic baseballs strung up on a chain, PVC pipes on the cage floor, as well as one hanging from a level as a little swing (which Wiley LOVES), and a small tote container with a couple of holes for them to hide in also.

If anyone has any ideas on alternative floor coverings that are very easy to wipe clean and hold up against rattie teeth, please let me know. LOL Linoleum looks like a good plan, but how expensive is it and how easily can it be taken in and out of the cages? And also, a couple of you have what appears to be carpet.... can you wash that? If you can pm me some answers it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
