I recently found out (after a little while of rat-owning) that rats do much better with other rats...I bought my last rat at a pet store (saved her, no doubt, from being someone's lunch...and she's absolutely adorable!) but now I'm looking to adopt...I have an itch for a himilayan female, but as long as she (yes, she, sorry guys) is cute (and small--my ephie is rather tiny, and I don't want her to feel bad, lol) I don't mind...can someone refer me to someone in the Boston area?

You can try Kims Ark.  Its a rescue out of Medford I beleive.  All the ratties are vet checked and are great.  I have 2 girls from Kim and they are awesome.

Her site is

Kim, of Kim's Ark, transports rescue rats throughout New England so you could definitely go through her.  I got two boys from Kim, and one is a Himalayan born on April 1.  They're both wonderful rats who were very well socialized by Kim, Tracy, and another foster home, so you'd definitely be getting wonderful pets if you go through her.  You can visit her website, http://www.geocities.com/kimsarkrescue/index.html or e-mail her at KimsArkRescue@yahoo.com.  I'm not sure if she has any Himalayans left though...

thank you all so much!!!  Even if I can't get a himilayan, that's ok...my little ephie will be so happy to finally have a friend (and a better rat mommy).  Here's a picture of her, just in case you want to see her:

if that doesn't work out, I also have a little of pet store rats from an irresponsible breeding.....they are increadibly well socialized(how could they not me? they lived with me...hehe), and healthy...I'd be willing to meet you somewhere. The females left are all either tan hooded or PEW

Yep, Kim's Ark is brimming with rescue ratties.  Although I am here representing Kim's Ark, if you want a rat from a breeder, there's an exceptional woman in Worcester by the name of Olga.   Here's a link to her available page and email although check her upcoming litters and anthology of litters if you don't see what you are looking for.
