Hamster in SanDiego
«
on:
June 23, 2002, 05:32:28 PM »
I know this is a rat board but I know that anyone who loves rats, loves all animals. I have a friend in SanDiego that is flying down to Vegas to live and won't be able to bring her Hamster on the plane. If there is anyone near San Diego that could give a 1 1/2 year old sweet Hamster a good home please get back to me. She leaves June 30th. The cage is definantly included. Thanks

There are many people who drive to Vegas from San Diego. Perhaps your friend needs to check around and find someone going to Vegas for a visit who would be willing to let the hamster hitch a ride.
Trying to find a home for 1 1/2 year old hamster isn't easy. That little hammy deserves to stay with your friend. It's probably easier to find the hammy a ride, than to find a new home.

The term pocket pets is used to describe small pets other than cats and dogs. It in no way suggests that these small pets are "throw aways" or not as worthy of proper care as "larger pets!

Oh trust me I know, and I feel bad, but we have tried to get her a ride, she was suppose to be here 2 months ago but we were waiting for a ride. No matter how we try though, things won't work out, and she has to be here before the 30th. She wanted to leave it with her parents, but they know nothing about hamster care. That's why I'm trying to find it a good home.

If I can find the hamster a ride, will she keep him? I am on several lists, one of which transports dogs to various places. I can't make promises, but I'll do my best to find him a ride if she'll make arrangements for him once he gets there.

If the hamster got a ride from San diego to Vegas I'm sure she'd definantly keep him. How much would that run us?

It wouldn't cost you anything. It's a group of volunteers who do the runs. I'll put my feelers out and see if we can get him a trip to be with his momma.

Hehe...they've all got the runs...
How far-reaching is this volunteer system? I'm in the Memphis, TN area. Does it reach that far (for future reference)?

There are groups who do the same type of driving over in TN. They are basically a bunch of people who love animals who are willing to help drive.

Is there a way to get him up to Santa Ana? If possible, my cousin could then drive him to me on Saturday. We are meeting at a wedding Saturday. (The hamster can stay 3 blocks away at my grandma's house until after the wedding & reception. Hamster wedding guests probably would be frowned upon. No use letting the bride marrying into our family think the family is TOTALLY nuts, even if we are, until after she says "I do". Then, it's too late to back out for at least 6 months. Maybe we will grow on her!)
Then, said hammy could hitch a ride to my house, to wait until I can find a ride to go to Vegas. If nothing else, there is a possiblity that I am going to Vegas around July 20th. He could go with us then. I am trying to reach my cousin in Santa Ana, to see if my OTHER cousin who actually lives in Vegas is coming out for the wedding. He wouldn't mind having a hamster in the passenger seat.
If volunteers don't materialize, I'll recruit them and deputize them. *grin*

You might try there. Most people only do dogs/cats but some will do other stuff..

Good news!
We have someone who is going to drive the Hamster from San Diego to River side, then someone from Riverside to the state line, and someone else from the state line to my house! It was hard work but we finally got it, and just a day before my friend comes down. Thank you to everyone who helped and tried to make things work out
