Here is the scoop -
My house is very sick right now!  Not only am I suffering from a head cold, but something is seriously wrong with Eek!  Eek is about 2 month old, and two nights ago he started peeing blood.  Now, before you freak - yes, we have been in touch with the worlds best exotics vet - and we have an appointment tomorrow at 3:00.

Here is what happened - I introduced Eek, Rizzo and Gus-Gus to a brand new boy on Sunday night (the newbie is yet to be named, and he is only 4 weeks old!)  Here I was worrying about the baby - HA!  Late Sunday night I noticed Eek leaving red spots when he walked on some paper towels.  I figured he had a nip on his leg, or his privates - seeing nothing on his foot or leg - I really thought his privates were nipped, and decided to watch it for a few days.

Well, Monday when I got home from work, Eek was really cool and lethargic.  Plus, I noticed large red spots all over the extra paper towels I left in his cage.  So I pulled him out and put him into a "hospital" cage to see if maybe the new baby wasn't just super stressing Eek out.  I gave Eek some extra special food (yogurt, bananas, a grape) and some extra fleece for warmth.

Monday evening I spiked a fever, and realized that I wasn't going to work Tuesday.  Lucky I didn't!  I have a feeling that my poor Eek might not make it to the Vet tomorrow.  But when I was talking with her, she gave me th go ahead to give him some Zithromax because if he has a UTI, the Zith will take care of it.  She also recommended Pedialyite and even some of the puppy milk to try to keep his fluids up since Eek is a bit dehydrated.

Lets top this all off with this - my 2+ year old Rosie had a very large tumor removed the beginning of March.  Now, poor Rosie has developed the strangest lumps on one side of her stomach.  I isolated her for two days because my Vet wanted to make sure Rosie was pooping (she is).  Now, she has lost some weight and her eyes seem to be a bit bulgy.  Not boggling bulgy, more like deer in the headlights super big bulgy.  So naturally I am freaking on that!

And to end this post of woe - money is tight because the tax man decided that my husband and I (we are DINKS - double income, no kids) didn't pay enough tax and Uncle Sam wants us to pony up $800 bucks!

So - that is my tale of woe!  Please keep Eek and Rosie in your thoughts.

--Update--  Puppy Dog Eyes: Well, Eek went to the rainbow bridge Tuesday night.  My vet did the necropsy and couldn't find a darn thing!  She is stumped and so am I.  I really, really hate not knowing, but sometimes things just happen.

As for Rosie, she has been diagnosed with "Terminal Tumor."  My vet has said that this one is so fast growing, that to remove it is really not an option.  Rosie is over 2 years old and has never fully recovered from the first tumor we had removed the beginning of March.  So, we are spending all the time we can with her, because she won't be with us long.  But I know when she goes, she'll be back to her slick and beautiful self for all the boys at the bridge!  I'll try to get some pics of Rosie up later.  But I'm encountering problems with my album right now.

Flip side - my fever is gone and I'm back to work.

Weird, and proud of it!

Eep!  I had something similar happen with one of my girl rats.  She was peeing blood to the extent that she was cold, pale, and lethargic.  We did x-rays and all, and put her on some antibiotics and steroids, as all the vet could see was a cloudy place where her bladder should have been.  She was right as rain in a couple days, and we fed her high-iron stuff to help her get her away from the anemia.  Nutrical is great for that, as it has molasses in it, which is very high in iron.  We figure that she had fallen from one of the top shelves, and hit her abdomen on the corner of a box that we had in the cage, and it caused her bladder to bleed.  I hope that it will be the same for poor Eek, and that he'll heal up just fine, and none the worse for the wear.  Smiley

I don't know what to say about Rosie, except to ask if the vet did internal sutures after the lump came out.  I know some rats react to them, even though they're supposed to dissolve, and they become pocket abcesses, which would account for some of the weight loss, I'm sure.

I hope both your kids (and you) are feeling much better soon!

A sad update - Eek passed away last night.  So I am taking Rosie to the vet to check her stomach and my Vet has offered to do a necropsy on Eek free of charge.

Awww...  Cry I'm so sorry. My Bailey started having blood in his urine and when I asked around it seemed they either pass away immediately within days of spotting blood or
it's a urinary tract infection (or something along those lines). I'm so very sorry Eek fell into the first category.  Puppy Dog Eyes:
