I have the The Rat Cabin (R-670) from Martin's Cages. With the Cage calculator, it says I can have about 2.5 rats per cage. However before I have comfortably carried 4 rats in that cage. (There are so many levels and nooks, they all have found places. As you know (Or may not) I am adopting 2 ratties from Bella Ratta's Rattery, but am thinking of adopting 3. Would this be okay to have 3 rats in the rat cabin??

I have added pictures of my refurbished rat cabin for review.. would 3 rats be okay? You can't see it, but underneath the first ramp is an igloo Smiley

That beige furry thing in front of the cage is my chihuahua pup, Guinness - checking out the goods.

The bedding is "Yesterday's News".

Something to chew on, and keep me awake at night Wink

A bad view of the top.. sorry.

Something fun to chew on and shred. Their hammock is up here too Wink

A rat's eye view Smiley

The rats love sleeping in this little "pencil" box. They pile up on top of eachother to sleep in that Smiley

Are you getting girls or boys and how much out time will they get?  It makes a big difference. I've had three girls in that cage before, for the most part they were happy. I've tried three boys in there as a temporary cage, it didn't work our for my guys. They got on each others nerves. Three boys would be fine for a little while if they are really young and you intend to put them in a bigger cage later.

I never really "count" out time - but they would be out all the time. Plus, they would all be youngin's and coming from the same litter.

I have that cage as a quarantine/intro cage.  The three ghosts girls did  fine living in there for about 2 months during their quaranine and while I dragged my feet with intros.

To me it's such a huge cage (I can't imagine the Ruud!! lol) so I can't imagine it JUST being an intro/quarantine cage...

I've seen the cage and I can't imagine having more than two girls live in it.   It's the bare minimum amount of space to me.  I have 5 rats living comfortably in a 695.  For three rats, I'd recommend a 680 or 685, personally.

I've had 3 rats in that cage, but I didn't like it.  They were very lazy for girls so they did okay in it with plenty of out time, but I much prefer it for only 2 like I have now.  I generally use it as my quarantine cage.

Some people are like slinkies..... They are not really good for anything... BUT they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!

Love a rescue rat and they'll love you back!
