I'd like to find some already neutered younger males rather than intact ones that I would have to get neutered. Rat needs a friend or two!

Amy,

You may want to try Rattie Ratz Rat Rescue.

http://www.ratrescue.homestead.com/

They are really good. The two girls I got from them are fantastic, very sociable and loving, perfect for a new owner like myself. The best way to find out if she has any neutered males would be to email her.

Another option would be SF Animal Care and Control.

http://www.ci.sf.ca.us/acc/

They spay and neuter all rats as a rule before you can take them home, and it's only a $5 adoption fee. They don't have any rats listed right now, but chances are they have them, just not listed on the web page. Anyway, I hope this helps you a bit and good luck! I hope you find that perfect rat!

If you're willing to travel to Davis, they've got like 3 or 4!  Absolutely adorable too!

I have been talking to the girl who has the 4 in Davis. They ought to be adopted out as a group, though. I think she will get back to me if she has any others.

As far as Rattie Ratz goes, I have checked the website recently, and it hasnt been updated since October. My girls are some of the ones in the pictures she has up!

I know the website is very out of date, but that doesn't mean they don't have rats. I emailed Diane when I was looking, and she responded very quickly, the next day if I remember correctly. She has tons of rats, it's probably difficult to take care of so many rats and still find time to update the website.

I was thinking of getting one of them too, but then she emailed me to tell me she wants them to go out together.  I wonder if we were to tell her we already have rats she would reconsider?  So, if you took one, and I took one, there would be two left and it would actually be easier for her to get someone to take 2 than the 4!  Dontcha think?

I was interested in getting two of those boys. I dont think its an issue of a single rat. I got the impression that she didn't want to separate the four because they had lived together their enire lives, and were really attached to each other.

I think I will contact Rattie Ratz. With the website so out of date, I thought that maybe she didnt run the rescue place anymore. Thanks for cluing me in, though.

Don't eat that! It's not for rats!

Well, the happy ending is that we got two boys from the SF pound today, and they will go back to be neutered in a month!  Thanks for all the suggestions.
