I'm wondering what the benifits are to neutering male rats.

Mine are currently non aggressive, so I don't have a need for that.

I've never done it yet, and wondered if it's helpful for rats like it can be for other animal species.

Thanks!

Personally, I did it to curb agression (towards other rats) and also because I have mixed colonies and all my rats are rescues.

I do not want to run the risks of a litter.

Some of them have congenital malformations and most of them have mental / temperamental issues and even with neutering, I still have two boys that just cannot deal with each other. One because he is just very dominant (apparently his littermates that went to another person became so agressive they had to be kept alone) and the other because before comming with me, his cagemate had something neurological and would become agressive towards him sometimes. He thus has lots of trouble with conflicts with other rats ... he just will never back down.
