Our new rat Noodles is proving to be a real little character. He spends a lot of time either riding on my shoulder or smooching up to my neck. I have noticed he leaves quite a urine trail on me. I don't mind. Is this usual? I have now kept a special shirt for when I hold him. He seems perfectly relaxed so I don't think he's scared.

He's just telling you he loves you, and that everyone else should stay away. He may also be leaving a wanted ad on you.

Isn't it sweet? Urine marking is perfectly normal. It can be a bit gross, more or less when you're showing your boyfriends mom the rats and one pees on you.

Not to but in or anything (please forgive me cause I guess I am going to but in)

One of our new little boys Kuro always pees on me and nobody else.  Does this mean he likes me more or is he warning his brothers that shes mine.

Either way I am happy to be peed on now.  LOL

I think urine marking serves a lot of purposes. It helps all involved to know where they've been, who they trust, what they can eat, what they shouldn't eat, that they're full of testosterone and would make a good mate, or that they're a sire-seeking female. Lots more reasons, too, I'm sure.

^that site discusses a lot of behaviors as well as urine-marking.
