When I went to www.everywherechat.com it listed me as a guest...

And when I went to the chat room directly from Rats Rule! It just says "float" at the bottom...and I don't see an applet... Huh

Could someone help me...sorry I am a newbie here.

Thanks. Smiley

Hi Littlerattie. Are you using a mac or a pc? It sounds like you don't have java installed. Go to www.java.com and download the latest version, then reboot. Let me know if you still have problems.

I have a mac, and when I went to download java, it took me to this page:http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/java/

And I can't find a download option anywhere... Huh

I have found the java chat room on a Mac can be pretty iffy.

I actually recommend ircle. Grin

I've been having periodic problems getting into chat the past week no matter what method I use (java, chatzilla, trillian, mirc) after months of regular use.  Is there a known issue?

Actually, yes, there is! Grin

Roadrunner seems to have picked up on it already, so I have had no issues, but for some people it hasn't been resolved yet... basically, everywherechat changed its server address, and not all the ISPs have updated yet. Grin

(thanks to lisaj29 for finding this out)

Server Notice: Please note that our DNS server has changed again. You may experience issues connecting to the chat for the next 24 hours or so. We're working to fix this as soon as possible.

Server Notice: Once again, for anyone that might have missed the first notice - Please note that our DNS server has changed again. You may experience issues connecting to the chat for the next 24 hours or so. We're working to fix this as soon as possible. In the mean time, you can use the IP of the server to connect - 204.157.0.193

(however, this was way more than 24 hours ago...)

hmm -- I've been having problems connecting even using the IP address instead of the URL (got that info Friday night).  But I do get connected with no trouble much of the time.  But for example, I couldn't connect almost the entire evening Wednesday, but was finally able to connect with no troubles late in the evening.  BUt it did appear that many people were in chat - so maybe existing connections were fine?

You should definately be able to use the ip address with mirc instead of the server name. Try getting into mirc and type /server 204.157.0.193

Some isps can take up to 72 hours to update, and some offices cache dns settings for up to a week. So the actual everywherechat.com link might not work for your for now.

You need java installed on your computer. Go to www.java.com and download it.

Did you follow the instructions?  They're not outdated, and I'm not really sure how to explain things any differently ... Sad

Sounds like you don't have java installed on your computer.  3 or 4 posts up, there's a link posted by Goose on how to get it.

I tried to connect through Colloquy, another chat program for mac, and couldn't get into the room at all. Anyone ever used this program?? I have never used ircle.

EDIT: Oh boy I'd need someone to walk me through ircle...

When does everyone go to the chat room? I am on here a lot during the day (and sometimes night too, lol) but I never see anyone in the chat room! With other groups I have been in we had 'community meetings' one night a week to discuss anything we are frustrated about or things we love about the site, do you do anything like that?

It used to be pretty hoppin' during the day, and then again later at night, but it really hasn't been too active lately...
