Usually I get a pop up asking me to identify and I have to use the command line "/msg nickserv identify password" -- without quotes and with your real password. See if that works.

In X-chat I get no pop-up, it just repeatedly tries to connect and then tells me that I have to register first. My nick is set properly in the channel preferences with my password, but it won't allow me to connect to the server outright so I can even type /identify before it disconnects and loops again.
