So we're going to Mikes parents for a couple of days (2.5 to be exact) and can't bring the rats. A couple people said we wouldn't need a sitter as we were only going for a short time but I don't know how much food to leave them. I have a feeling I'm going to leave 2 days worth and they are going to be little piggies and eat it all. Should I make pinatas of food or other ideas?
How much to leave?

I pile a whole bunch of blocks and mix in their cage just before I leave, and I add another waterbottle or 2 to the cage.
If you are only going for a couple of days they will be fine.  Is it hot where you live?  Are you going to be leaving them in temperature controlled conditions?

We're leaving them 2 water bottles each and putting the fan in front of cage for them. We're living in Welland which is about 20 min from Niagara Falls and it hasn't been that hot here lately.
I just don't want my little guys getting hungry, they are silly rats!

Make sure the fan isn't blowing right on them or they have somewhere to get away from the draft.  They can get sick...yeah I hadn't heard this before either.  Pile the food in and they'll be fine.  They will sleep thru the day and since you aren't going to be there they will doze a lot at night as well.  Smiley  I've left my kids for 4 days...unwillingly but I had to.

I'm not all that familiar with that place....but I know here...even with a fan and no AC, my rats would die.  I hope it doesn't get that hot there.  Giving them 2-3 days worth of food should be perfectly fine.  Make sure an extra water bottle too like lilspaz suggested!

Welland and Niagara (Canada) are a lot cooler compared to a lot of places.

I'm leaving for 2 days this weekend too.  My girls live in the A/C but I'm going to pile their dishes with lab blocks and Suebee's mix before I leave, and fill up their water bottles.  (Both cages have 2 water bottles)

The babies eat like PIGS though, so I'm sure their food will be almost gone by the time I get home  Roll Eyes

Just carefully watch the advance weather reports.  The really hot weather is moving east toward the end of this week and beginning of next week.  In Southeast Michigan, it will be in the mid 90s by the beginning of the week.  That's a bit hot for us.
