Hi everyone!  I am going to be a rattie mommy soon, if the breeding went ok, and I am making my own hammocks.  My question is, is single thickness fleece going to be sturdy enough?  Or should I double it over?  I am going to grommet the corners, and they will probably get laundered every other day.  Also, since I have never had rats before, do you guys think they will just get chewed to threads very quickly?  It's not really a problem with me, I'll just have to make lots of hammies.  Thanks!

One thickness is perfectly fine. You can double if you want, but you don't have to. Grin

Whether or not you have chewers... you'll only know by trying the hammock out. I've had ruthless chewers in the past, to the point that I couldn't use fabric in the cage at all. But right now I have guys who are more interested in PAPER... they're fine with fabric, but I have to keep tissues FAR out of their reach! LOL!

I prefer to double the fleece/fabric, since it makes it more sturdy, and if you do in fact get chewers, it'll take them longer to get through the fabric.  Smiley

I do double so they can get under the top layer. Cheapest way I've found to do hammocks is to purchase the small fleece blankets, I can get 6 large double hammocks out of 1 blanket. I don't even grommet them, just s small slit on the 4 corners and they hold very well. Fleece is an amazingly strong fabric!!

Congrats on the new rats, I can't wait to see pics once you have them.
