I just wanted to let those of you who have been following the story of the abandoned ratties, Hobo and Renni (and her babies), that Hobo has been caught! Tomorrow will make three weeks since they first appeared in my yard, and although Hobo had been a real challenge, I finally was able to trap him. He is in bad shape.. loaded with warbles, but he is safe and warm and being fed. We are taking him in to one of the very best vets in our city tomorrow at 12:30, and we are hoping that she has encouraging news. Hobo is frightened, no doubt, but responding positively. Unhandled as yet,.. tomorrow will tell us just how handleable he will be after his long ordeal outside. And, of course, how much damage has been done, and how possible it will be to overcome it and get better.

Rennie and the babies are excellent! She is healing up so well, and the babies are growing like weeds.. cute cute cute!

I will update after we get back from the vet. Positive thoughts and prayers for this little sweetie tomorrow?

Yay!!!  I've been following the story of these two little ratties but haven't said anything because I didn't feeling like I had anything useful to add.  But I just can't contain my relief and happiness for Hobo.  Good luck, little guy!

I'm so glad to hear you've caught him finally! Poor boy needs some love, and you most obviously fit that bill! I hope everything checks out okay at the vets tomorrow. The girls and I are cheering for him.

Happy to hear Rennie and her babies are doing well. We need more pictures of the fuzzbutts!!

Ug, more warbles. Grody.

Make sure you give us an update ASAP on how the vet visit goes, and I hope Hobo turns out to be jsut as sweet as Renni.  Heart

We really do need pictures of those babes, though!

I am excited to hear how things go! I'll keep you in my prayers and thoughts. Kiss for you and hobo and renni.

You are a true Godsend for these animals. They would certainly have died without you.

I am SO HAPPY you caught Hobo!  I know you sat out there many a day trying to get him into your trap.  Please update us on his vet visit tomorrow and because I am a sicky, please get pics of his warbles.

It was a busy busy day yesterday, and Bev had emailed us pics of Hobo.  I am going to post the least offensive one, since the others are definitely disturbing.  Hope you don't mind me taking liberties Bev!

When he was first caught, he definitely wanted out, and was jumping frantically.  Later on when Bev came near the trap/carrier he would walk to the other side.  He even took kibble thru an airhole from her fingers..awww.  He was put in her quiet mostly unused basement with dim lighting to unstress him. She said he was lying down like this in the pic for quite a while but later on she went down to check on him and he was "preening".  Bev is definitely a bird person   Cheeky.  So he must've been feeling a lot better.

More updates on our fine fellow later.  My fingers are crossed that he will be just fine, and warbleless in a little more than 6 hours.

Healing hopeful vibes for Hobo from me and the Ratty Horde  laughing6  I'm so excited he was caught!!!!

Dor asked me last night if I was going to go to bed (at midnight) or stay up longer again...  I told him hold on I had to finish reading about Hobo - he was a little confused!

I'm so glad he's safe now Smiley.  I was thinking about him yesterday.  What a cutie Smiley.  He looks a lot like Spring so I hope he's really domestic.  It was said he is definitely domestic before so I guess he must be.  Regardless, he's going to be much happier now  Grin.

Bev, congratulations on your kindness, caring and perseverance and to your hubby also, for caring for these ratties.     I hope all goes well for Hobo at his vets check, that he remains calm and friendly and allows the vet to treat those warbles with all they deserve.  I understand they're part of nature, but not in our Fancy Rats

Please let us know how he went at the vets, It's wonderful that he's finally accepted your help.  Smiley Heart

I was thinking he looked like Spring too.  I was for some reason expecting a tan hooded rat as hobo, was really surprised by the picture.  Are we sure he's domestic?

Earlier in the thread, bev researched the difference in shape (placement of ears, head shape, etc) of domestics versus wild rats. She said she is certain that Hobo is a domestic rat. And if he is already taking kibble from her, I can only assume he has been around people before. Wild animals just aren't that trusting.

Awesome Smiley I'm glad that you got him. I wonder how many of those things are in him and how he's doing. Poor fella. He's likely to end up with more eventually simply because they probably all haven't shown up yet. Looks like you'll be having agouti babies. Possibly hybrid. Hard to tell.
