My 10 year old daughter got two "female" rats for her birthday and we discovered 5 weeks ago that one of them is not a female.  Oops!  Needless to say we have 10 adorable babies, 2 of which we are keeping.  All but one are black with white tummies & white paws.  Only one female is "fawn" colored like her mommy.

I am asking that they be adopted 2 at a time, unless you already have a rat who needs a companion.  Our daddy rat was not very happy when separated from his girlfriend.

This is the first time I've posted anything, so I'm not sure how it works.  I assume you just apply to this post if interested and I will get the message.  If I'm wrong...could someone let me know?  Thanks.

Also, the mom managed to chew through the barrier in the cage to the dad about 22 days ago ...yes, we have another litter.  Don't worry they are now in separate cages in separate rooms, and I'm feeling very overwhelmed right now.  I'm worried there isn't this much demand for rats...any ideas?

Just to let you know, if you are looking for help with the situation, you may want to contact Small Angels Rescue.  They are based out of Frederick, MD....I'm not sure if they have availability at the moment to take some, but wanted to let you know.

Yes, my friend is interested she already has everything she needs for rats except the food (which I will tell her what good ones to get, etc.).

She'd either like 2 boys or 2 girls. I'm not sure which colours however.

Is there anything you'd like to ask my friend? She's never owned rats before but she's played with her former room mates and mine before (I've been owning rodents including rats for over 20 years) she has had a hamster in recent years however.

She's willing to travel down to NoVA to meet.
Please contact me in email if you would like angelcumbersom@gmail.com

Cheers!

I have a female rat that just died, her sister needs a cagemate.
I would only really be able to take one.
I would really really really like a sweet& cuddly dispositioned one.
I am in pennsylvania.

I am in Leesburg, VA about an hour south of Hagerstown.

I still have females left but have a request from a pet store.

I'd be careful about pet store requests.  Only way to go with pet stores is to put up a flier and have people contact you so you can screen the adopters.  Many if they don't sell or even if they do will end up as feeders or breeders.

Also with petstores, you have to offer them as being free.  That's not good if you want them to go as pets.

The discussion about who buys them is all and good...but it doesn't help when nobody wants the rats.  I've tamed them so they will be handled, yet there are "interested" parties who aren't interested because they weren't planned.  They weren't bred for temperment, etc.

I can't keep 24 rats in my house, it's not humane for them to be squeezed among the 3 cages that I have either.  I'll have to take my chances and hope that at least a few of them end up in good homes.  I've managed to find homes for at least 6 of them, but it only scratches the surface.

Most people that I tell about the rats shudder at the thought of a pet rat.  They really don't know how sweet they are.  I was one of those who shuddered when my son first wanted a rat...but now I know different.

Alas...I have to do what I have to do.  If any of you have homes for them now...I'd love to hear about it.
