Hello,

My name is Sarah and I would love to adopt 2 rats. Preferably 2 young males but it isn't overly important. They would have a stable, loving home with a roomy, toy-filled cage (3 ft by 2 ft by 1ft), daily interaction and care. Numbers aren't particularly important either. I want 2 for companionship, but if anyone has only 1 (or even 3:-) that will be welcomed as well. Anyone in the Greenville area with rats for adoption, please respond! Thank you.

I saw it too. Unfortunately, Graham is a 6 hour drive from where I live. Under normal circumstances I'd drive there, but it would be too dangerous to drive after dark through some places. Thank you though Smiley

I don't know how far away you are from Raleigh but here are two rescues:

The website for Raleigh Rodent Rescue is: http://www.raleighrodentrescue.org/ It says they will be closed from 8/1 to 9/1, though

The other one is:
Rodent Rescue & Adoption of the Triad (R.R.A.T.).
Greensboro, NC 27408
Phone: 336-340-6592

Website: http://RRAT.piczo.com
Email: kato9toes@yahoo.com

and here is a post from another forum:

2 Females, 3 Males in Western NC
Due to a change in my circumstances, I am putting my rats up for adoption.

Males
I have 3 males. Two are standard hooded (one gray, one black) and one is hairless. They are all just shy of a year old. They are all healthy and very friendly, but the hairless is a bit of a finger nipper at mealtime.

I am including a Martins 695 with the hinged top, which is their current home, as well as a supply of food. They eat a mix of premium dogfood (natural balance, diamond vegetarian, pinnacle, etc.), Teklad blocks, and assorted treats. I'm sure they would eat Suebee's or another quality diet. I give the hairless some baby food or baby cereal daily due to his higher metabolism.

They are pals, so if they could go together, that would be great. The hairy ones keep their hairless roomate warm.

Females
The girls are both standard gray hooded. They are about 14 months old. There is a possibility one or both are pregnant due to an unexpected and unsupervised 3 hour exposure to the three males. I should know for sure around August 28. If you don't mind this possibility, then adopt away. I will update when I know for sure.

They eat the same food as the guys, and live in a 29 gallon aquarium with a Martins two-level topper, which will be included in the adoption.

As for travel, I would prefer to keep it within 100 miles of the Asheville, NC area.

If you have any questions email me at kmyers87@mchsi.com

and another one:
sweet baby rats- 4 males in NC (6 weeks old)
Well one of our rats had a little accident and we ended up with 9 babies!
We are giving away 4 of the boys seeing as how we can't give them all the love they deserve!
They are six weeks old as of 6/24/2006 and sociable.
3 are black hooded and 1 is brown hooded.
We perfer that they go in pairs or to a home that already has rats that are kept in the same cage. They are use to living with other rats!!!!
We are near Greensboro NC and are willing to drive or meet somewhere.
We have pictures that we can send via e-mail.
My e-mail address is gaallgei@bulldog.unca.edu

There are also several boys (all adults) that are available in Bristol TN if you are close enough to them. They are all needing new homes because their owner has become pregnant and cannot care for them all any longer. Let me know if you are interested and I will give her your information.

I'm in the far Eastern part of NC, so TN is too far, but thank you! Smiley I will look into the other two postings, but I don't know if the distance is too great to make it practical. Thanks again to both of you! Cheesy  If anyone sees any other postings closer to the eastern part of NC, I'd be most appreciative if they posted them here. I've looked everywhere on the internet but I can't find any rats in my area....I wonder why Huh There are plenty in the pet stores...but I've always felt that it's better to adopt.

there is another post (Raleigh area though):

Four wonderful female fancy rats available in NC
Hello all.
I have 4 female fancy rats, they are currently living in one cage together. However I would be willing to split them into two groups of two.
The two older ones are 4 months old and they are biological sisters, so they have always been together. One is a black hooded, Hannah and the other is a pink eyed white, Amelia.
The younger two are about 3 months old and are also biological sisters. One is brown with a grey belly, Rachel and the other is sort of himalayan marked (she is cinnamon with a light brown smudged nose) this is Savanna.
They are all still a little timid about being held. But Hannah and Rachel are the two most outgoing. Savanna is very shy and quiet.
I recently found out I am pregnant. So I have not been able to give them the attention they deserve. Since I have not felt so good. I am also paranoid about cleaning their cage out while pregnant, even with gloves.
So I thought it would be best if I could find them a home where they got all the attention they deserve. I also have a large cage I am willing to let go with them. I live in Raleigh, NC area.

Here is a breeder I found from NC. Don't know her, so I can't say anything about her rats, but it is an option.

Cary
Julie Mitchell primarily breeds Black Berkshires, Black hoodeds, and Ruby-eyed beiges. All are hand tamed from two days of age on and very lovable.
