Oh Liza, you did not fail. Not caring, not trying - that's failing. I'm a pretty experienced mammal rehabber & I lose more babies than I care to talk about. But knowing that your little ones were cared about, were warm and full...that's all you can do.
I talk to people on the phone every day who want to take babies from the wild to our hospital so they can be "safe". We humans can only do so much. And we do the best we do with what we have. You did more than most everybody that I know.
Still, I know it doesn't make it any easier
