Hi I'm from S.A and was wondering if anybody knows of a ratterie where I could maybe get my lonely rattie a cuddle buddie. She lost her sister recently and I'm so scared that she is going to get lonely and depressed.

I don't know where in South Africa you're from, but I saw there was a rattery in Pretoria called Pied Piper's Rattery, though I don't know if they're still active. Contact information is rodent@mweb.co.za.

In addition the Ratster showed Moonstones Rattery in SA but didn't say where, but the breeder in on the forum below as Moonstones.

Check out the Ratanooga South African Rat Club forum I found while browsing; it might help you!

Edit: Oooh! I knew I'd heard the name Moonstones before! I went to Rats Ahoy! and found this thread which gives the website for Moonstones Rattery in Pretoria. I know they're currently active too since they just imported a bunch of US rats for their program.

I just think of the higher price you pay for a breeder rat as insurance against more problems later. If you've got a rat bred for genentic quality, it should cost less in the long run in vet bills, thus saving you money. Smiley

An older rat has a great chance of adjusting to younger rats, especially if they're alone after their cagemate's death. It's best to bring two new ratties in, so the young rats have someone to popcorn with and bother without bugging the older rat too much. Wink

You can often get a discount from breeders if you buy in pairs.  Blue Dumbo Smile

Maybe she'd give you a pair for $60 usd? It may be worth it to keep your baby from getting depressed.
