Yes, it's pretty common for hair to really thin out as our babies get old.  Rats can look...well...pretty ratty in their old ages.

Cado 2001-2006

This is my old boy

His base coat, as I'm told, is called a satin, made up of very fine and very soft fur.  And in a few areas it's really thin or gone.  He's also a silver which is a white long hair that gives him a frosted look.  When he sheds, most of the silvered hair falls out but a winter coat brings them back.

In other words, Cado has a comb over in the winter time. And it doesn't look any better on a rat than human folks.  Cheeky

Yeah my old man Jett has it too...........but he is so thin! just over 100 grams or so.  One vet said it was cancer but he has been thin for over 12 months like this?  I'm confused? Anyway, I wouldn't worry, except maybe that they may get easily colder than the other ratties in winter?
