After spending three days slaving over the sewing machine I stripped the ratties cage bare and did a complete overhaul. I've found over the last few months I've been doing tthe same thing over and over again to decorate, and I realised that that could be a little boring for the rats.

The cage before:

And the cage after!

Any comment or questions? Anything you suggest to do differently?

Ok am I the only one who looks at really nice ratty houses, and thinks that it would be fun to shrink down to their size!  I know it sounds dumb but....LOOK at all the cool stuff!?!

I love it! Makes me want to redo my cage. I did buy some fleece on sale at Walmart, I just have to take the time to make new hammocks and tubes! Great job!!!  Smiley

Very nice!  Its probably about time for me to do that too.  I dont even remember the last time I changed the cage decorations.  My poor babies, arent getting enough mental stimulation... Sad    Maybe soon, after I take my GRE! *grumbles about dumb grad school*

Looks awesome! Nicely done. Smiley

A.Pho, don't even remind me about the GRE. I took it in September but I need to do it again, since I'm so horrible at math and the review books didn't even prepare me for having to know half the stuff! Tongue *Grumbles about dumb grad school* is right!

I switch the toys around every week when I clean. Although the bath house and waffle houses are getting major chewed up and will need to be thrown out soon. The poor girls haven't gotten new toys for over a year. Those things are EXPENSIVE.

wow!!!!!!!!!! that is one gorgeous ratty mansion!  i just made my first hammock yesterday (looks funny but Mowgley LOVES it, LOL) and I bought tons of cute fabric on sale at JoAnns so hopefully I can make his cage a little mmore intersting too.  One quick question, do you rotate things in and out to keep them interested?  How often is a good time to change things around?

Heather - I so agree with you about expensive toys! It helped when I worked at the petstore (who doesn't like discounts?). I find Walmart has good bird toys that work for ratties as well  Blue Dumbo Smile

Mowgley - If you could only see my first hammocks! Believe me, it gets better and easier as you get more practice. I try to change hammocks and fabric things one to two times a week. Cardboard is taken out when it starts to smell (normally after 3 days or so) and the plastic toys get soaked in hot water and vinegar every cage cleaning. I do this to wooden toys as well. Ideally I would like to have a change in the set up every week, but I'm really not that creative!

You know my hammocks are definately not pretty by any means.  It is all about function!  I can not sew.  All I do is buy the baby recieving blankets from the Dollar Tree Store and cut them in half.  Then fold the half in half and cut a hole in each corner.  Push shower curtain rings through each hole and walla hammock!!!!!  Mine love theirs!
