I rescued the daddy from being snake chow and it seems that he got a little to friendly with one of my female rats (Sugar) through the wire cages. (I have since moved them further apart) The resultant 16 babies are doing great, but they do need homes soon. I had 5 rats before the birth which is fine by me but now I have 21!  Blue Dumbo Big Eyes Yikes. There are 9 males and 7 females. All of them are adorable and friendly.  Ratty Smiley

I really don't want to, but if these babies don't get homes soon they're gonna be snake food. I just can't afford 16 baby rats!!
I am in San Antonio, Texas. please respond to this. I will check it everyday.

Why do they have to be snake food? If you can't keep them bring them to your local shelter. They will probably be put down, but that is better than being fed live to a snake. I think they have to be at least 6 weeks old before being adopted. Also see if there is a rat rescue near you who you can contact.

Yeah, I really, really don't advise giving the babies to a pet store, or feed place. (Please :x) If you can, just try to find a local shelter or maybe even a rattery in your area that will take them in. Google works wonders Tongue

Also, do you know what kinds of babies you have, and do you have any pictures.. ?

They have standard ears and are beige and white. Would a shelter take them? I didn't even think of that.

Yes, a shelter will take them. Try The Rat Association of Texas too http://www.ratassociation.org/
I don't have time to look on the net now, but there must be a rat/rodent rescue in your area. Search on Google.

A shelter might, but even so I don't think I would recommend it.. rats are unconventional pets, and at times people don't really know what to do with them or how to handle them. A few of the messages on the adoption forum are examples.

Buut.. there are these places  Blue Dumbo Smile

I believe there's a rescue directly in San Antonio listed in that one..

Did you find homes for everyone?  If you still have any little ratties, I would probably be interested in 2 females (as long as they arent preggers).  Let me know...  Kristen

I'd suggest you email her, as she's not been on the forum since Oct. 25.

sorry peoples. They are all gone. I took them to a pet store. I took them to Forever Pets in San Antonio, except for 2 females went to a friend and 2 males went to the bexar county humane society.
