i bought my boys some dog biscuits today to try and give them something good to knaw on.  i couldn't find any of the specific ones i've heard mentioned, and just got them a generic baked bone shaped dog biscuit.  they got stuck into it and were having a great time, but the biscuits are slightly pink and now so are their poops!!  is this actually a problem or should i just enjoy the splash of colour?  Yellow Cute Laugh and are generic dog biscuits ok occassionally?  thanks! Hahaha, the title definitely caught my eye.   I'm not a big fan of "fake colored" foods because of experience with one of my cats and dogs.  I cannot give her kibble with food coloring (Kit n Kaboodle, especially), she barfs it up immediately.  The red Meaty Bones  used to make one of my dogs sick, too.  I've since learned that animals (and humans) can be senstive to certain dyes (and some dyes, especially a type of red was found to be carcinogenic and had to be pulled).  I recommend going for more natural and less processed foods without a lot of unnecessary additives like colorings.  All that color is to entice us to buy it, the animals don't care.  And while it may not be really harmful, ya just never know what the cumulative effect it may have.

I probably wouldn't throw the rest of it away because I'm frugal, but I'd look for something else next time.

Yellow Cute Laugh I love the title!  I feed my ratties dog's milk bones on occasion as well.  They love them (so does the dog - you should see his face when he sees me give them his bones...LOL).  I have never noticed anything unusal or sickly with my rats and think that all things are fine when given in proportion.

My rats' poops turn green after eating veggie baby food sometimes, and once they actually got an orange tint to them after eating a lot of carrots.  Yellow Cute Laugh  At least they're easier to spot on the dark carpet.  Grin

When I give my boys some "Menu" rat food as a treat it always turns one of their poops green, at first I got concerned but they don't seem to be unhappy and I know I myself am sensitive to some dyes so I don't worry too much about it.

I've had some orange poops and even slightly green poops from different veggies.  It's not a big deal.  Smiley

I had green sparkling poop once.  *laughing*  My most naughty rat got into my craft bin and chewed up a tube of green glitter glue.

HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAHAHAHA sparkly poo... that's the best. Did you get pics?! Funny as... Guess rats know what's pretty eh and left you a present in the only way they could.

I get a lot of purple, berry smelling poos cos my guys love blueberries. And yes any carrot seems to give them Beta the disgusting orange poo. Wulfman's poo is always perfect, firm and easy to clear away. Plus he's the only one who uses the litter. Beta just poos all over the bottom and scatters it all wheres. Sigh I guess we all have a poopy rat Tongue
