Monkeyface aka Ashe :)

« on: November 27, 2006, 12:45:27 PM »

The ending of my beginning is today.   Undecided Lucky was my first real rescue rat.  She was the one who made me realize that people could abandon baby rats in pet carriers outside in a parking lot in chilly October.  She helped me find the homeless rats in the shelters and I took one home for her as a companion.  Then I found rat forums and rescues and everything else is history.   Roll Eyes
She was soo special in everything she did, setting me on this wonderful path, and her personality was always calm and loving with me, with other rats, with everyone.   She was never sick a day in her life and I was shocked a couple of months ago when she started going  blind from cataracts, then soon after a mammary tumour popped up (never grew) and last week she was diagnosed with PT.  She was stable until yesterday and then her health and happiness plumetted. Sad
My beloved girl...I cannot talk now...   Cry  We WILL meet again I promise you!

her first night...

As a young lady...

23 months old

a few weeks ago

last night with Tawnie, my 2 sweet sickies

Tawnie was part of my life at the end of hers.  She was a shelter rat that had been neglected and then abandoned. I fell for her and her sister since she was soo old and frightened, had been thru a spay for a hemangiosarcoma and her breathing was awful.  Her breathing got worse and worse, and she started to waste away, but while her health declined her happiness and even liking for me grew.  At the end I decided that I would be making the same decision within the week and no matter how sad Lucky's last night was, it is much worse for me personally to watch a rat gasp for breath at the end of its life...so I let Tawnie go with peace and dignity.
It was wonderful to have met you little one, with your beautiful dark expressive eyes trying to figure me and my kindnesses out.  Heart

"Hugs"  It's really tough to lose close friends.  It sounds like they had a wonderful life in a very loving home.  I'm so sorry you have to be without them, but think of how much richer your life is because you knew and loved them.

once upon a time my heart got stolen by rats

« Reply #9 on: November 27, 2006, 02:07:01 PM »

Oh hon, I am so sorry they both had to go. You have my deepest sympathies.  Heart (((((HUGS)))))

I am glad you understand you will see them again. You are so in tune with your rats, I am sure they are very thankful for your understanding and your love.

Lucky's mission was complete, that's why she left now. You have understood what your thing to do down here on earth is all about and she made sure you understood. What a sweet baby face in that first picture of her! So tiny and beautiful - how could anybody have dumped her?  Shocked 2

Tawnie must have been incredibly happy at your place! For you to take her in when she was already older, neglected and abandoned - you will always be her hero!

They will always be with you!

Play joyfully with each other wherever you are right now!  Kiss Kiss

I try not to make people sad, even though its always a loss, I just wanted a celebration of their life and people to know my babies like I did.
My vet asked me today what I do for my grief after one is pts or dies, and I told her I post a memorial with pics  and the story of them in my life (or me in theirs maybe I should say Wink), and afterwards read the replies and get comfort from people responding.  Its like a giant ratty friend group hug.  It's my therapy, as I am sure it is many other people's therapy as well.  Some of the responses make me cry as well, but more in happiness then grief.   Smiley
The rescue rats have changed my life and my heart is full, although there are cracks in it some days like this one, and I just want to share.   Heart

I'm so sorry Shelagh. *Hugs* I understand completely the need for others to know how wonderful and how much you love your babies. Sharing our feelings is the road to healing. We can tell others, who have never loved these wonderful animals, how we feel, but they will never truly understand our grief. That's why we come here to share our feelings with others who know what we are going through and can share our grief as well as our memories. Yes, it is a celebration of their lives and we should embrace it.

Play hard at the bridge girls!
