I volunteer at the Ohio Wildlife Center.  Animals who live there are display animals and animals used for educational talks.  The last rat, Harriet, died at the age of 4 due to cancer.  They are on the look out for a new rat for educational purposes.  Rat must be young, friendly  and able to be petted by a wide variety of people.  Domestic rat is to be used to represent wild rats native to Ohio.

The rat will live in a large cage have a wheel and toys.  Cage will be cleaned daily.  Basic food will be lab blocks and rat mix, with a daily dose of veggie mix, fed to all animals who eat veggies.  Content will change daily.  Rats will be handled daily and allow to exercise in an exercise ball.  Rat will recieve all needed vet care.

I'm willing to drive to up to 5 hrs, which will put me in Mid Mich, broder of Ill, South past Louisville, Ky, east about an hour from Pittsburgh.

I can be reached offlist at celticmink@yahoo.com.

This group of three girls includes one agouti. They're in Lancaster PA, farther than you specified... but on the chance you might be able to work it out, I thought I'd give you the heads-up.

I'm not a rat person.  Is an agouti a brown rat?  I'm willing to drive about 5 hrs.  I want to make the trip in a single day without taking a room for the night.  I don't want to be driving much past 10 pm on the road home.  I don't work, so I can leave almost anytime.

I know a rat needs company.  I know they are smart and funny pets.  I have ferrets, help with rescue and do ferret education days.  We occassionally recommend rats to families.

Don't breed or buy while shelter animals die.

Yep!  Agouti rats basically look like wild rats.  Here's my big, pudgy agouti dumbo boy, Mulligan, as an example:

Rats will be handled daily and allow to exercise in an exercise ball.

I know we're not supposed to chat in here, but just to let you know, most rats don't like exercise balls...you might want to reconsider that exercise option.  Good luck! Smiley
