Hi-
I've been posting stories about my two rescue boys, Orion and Rigel.  Both of them have shown signs of aggression.  Rigel is the Alpha and is totally unhandleable at the moment.  Orion has just started to show signs of wanting to come out and has made a lot of progress in the past two weeks.
They fight a lot at night- fight usually end up with Orion squeeking in submission.
Question is- If I'm saving up for a neuter- Is it better to get one done first and see how the cage dynamics sort out before sending the other one in?
My logic is that Orion maybe should get neutered first- he's more of a "people rat" and neutering him may give him a better chance at coming out more often.  On the other hand, Rigel is pretty unpredictable and if I get him neutered, it may calm him down, but do you think that will send Orion into alpha-ville and make him more agressive?  Rigel doesn't seem like the type of rat that wants to come out at all...
Which one gets the first snip?

Is it possible to get them both done at once?

Well, I can save for two, but at 160$ a pop, I'm thinking that I should get the one done first, rather than making both of them wait until I get the (gak!) 320$ saved up.
Just seems like a insane price- they are the most rat- savvy vets in town, but the charges are a bit steep.
I just want to do what's best for them- If I can save some money by only getting one done, great.  I figure that it wouldn't hurt to get the one done and see how it goes, but if I need to get them both done, so be it.

If you can only afford one I would do Rigel.

His temperment would mean he would benefit most from the surgery.

I second Lise, I'd get Rigel snipped first, he obviously *neeeeeeeds* it.  Maybe your vet would let you try a Lupron shot on him while you save up.  Smiley

3rd for Rigel.  You never know he might calm down and Orion becomes the alpha but a much nicer one then Rigel ever was.  Smiley

Ok, Rigel it is- I will call and ask about the Lupron shot as well, but seeing as how a vet visit is $55 plus the cost of meds- I'll prob. be better off just flat out paying for the neuter.  I'll have enough within 2 weeks to a month.

Thanks, guys- you rock!
