I am looking for a neutered male or adult female rat.  Recently I had to euthanize two of my females and my remaining females are a bit down  Cry  So I am looking for a buddy for my older female who is almost 2.  The other two females that I have are about 4 months.  I have looked at every humane society and rat rescue around and haven't been able to find one...who woulda thought it would be so hard to find an adult rat!  I am looking for a rat who is possibly already solo, so then I can get him/her some buddies to live out his/her life.  (I don't want to take a rat who is already bonded with a sibling or other buddy.)  I am not sure where else to look.  I haven't seen any posts the past month with rats in WI either other then the babies that were just born, but I think that there are only males left anyway.  If anyone has any ideas or has any available ratties in this area..let me know!!!

Have you seen this thread? http://www.goosemoose.com/component/option,com_smf/Itemid,118/forum,rat/topic,4015413.0
I don't think the boy is neutered but while he is in quarantine you could have him neutered  Cheeky

There are 2 males and 2 females at the Wisconsin Humane Society in Milwaukee right now. But I am not sure about their age.

Or, there is Happy Endings in Indiana. I bet you can arrange meeting somewhere half way.
Good luck!!

Thanks.

I emailed her...but do you know about how much it costs to neuter a male?  I am taking one of my males in already this wednesday and forgot to ask how much it would cost.  I am hoping it isn't too much but am expecting between 150-200..if thats the case I won't be able to neuter jazz as well... but hopefully it won't be too much cuz he is exactly what I am looking for...and older and solo and lonely...and my Hope is very lonely even though she has two youngsters on her hands...but anyway thanks for taking the time to email her for me!

E-mail Shasta at the Rhinelander Rat Rescue. I know she's taken in a LOT of rescues recently though the site is still being updated. I'm in Appleton and may be able to help transport if you need.

It takes a while for her to get back to people--she's super busy right now. Tongue Which town are you in?

I'm in Janesville.  I contacted her a few months back looking for some baby females and all she had available at the time were the hairless and I didn't want them then.  Although now I just need someone older for my poor depressed Hope!  I just emailed her though, and hopefully I will hear back within the next few days or week.

I go to the New Berlin Animal Hospital and they charge $177 for one rat. They give you discounts if you bring in more rats at the same time. I hope you have a good vet in Janesville! Prices vary quite a bit acutally. Keep us posted how your boy is doing after the surgery.

Have you checked in Madison (at their humane society)? Or Huron Valley Rat Rescue in Michigan. I don't know but they might be able to meet you half way too.

Animal Welfare League in Chicago Ridge, Illinois just got in an 11 mos. old female rat.  Her companion passed so she was no longer wanted.  They said she's white with brown spots.
Unfortunately, they do not post their animals' pictures on petfinder.

Wow, Janesville is about 15 minutes from my house.  I have 8 week old males still available and really in need of homes.  The Dane County Humane Society also has males and females available and in need of homes. www.giveshelter.org  Good luck.

Also, if you go to the Janesville Vet Clinic and see Dr. Mike, it'll peobably be about $140 for a neuter.

Ok thanks guys..

Dr mike is the guy doing the sugery, that would be great if it was only about 140!

I have been keeping an eye on the dane county humane society and they have three females but their adoption has been pending for about 2 weeks now, the other 4 before them were all adopted on one day.

I can check out the Animal Welfare in Chicago..that sounds like my kind of girl!

I have also contacted the Huron Valley Rat Rescue, there was one male I was really interested in (Seagram) but she could only drive 1-1.5 and its 6 hours from my house, so it was too far for me to go.

I will just keep looking...keep coming up with places I can look! lol

Check the Milwaukee craigslist pet seciton.  I think I remember seeing 2 girl rats for adoption, cage and all included.  I'll see if I can find it again and post it here.

Two female rats about 1 1/2 years old in good health and very friendly. We need to find a good home for them since we have moved to a new location. We are all going to have a hard time giving them up. Contrary to popular opinion, they make wonderful pets!

We want $25 or best offer for the two rats, nice cage, extra bedding, food, water bottles and wheel. This is everything you will need to get started. They need a good, loving home.

Location: Oconomowoc, WI

It's NOT ok to contact this poster with services or other commercial interests

I wanted to make sure that you realized that the female rat at Animal Welfare is in their suburban shelter.  Chicago Ridge is a southwest suburb of Chicago.  It's not too far off of I294.
You could always check their Chicago branch, since they may have some as well.

You've got the right place.  They don't list their pets or on their site.  I believe there's a sample of a few dogs that's never been updated if you had tried clicking on the small petfinder logo at the bottom of their site.  The shelter has row after row of dog runs filled with dogs, an entire cat section, several bunnies, ferrets, guinea pigs, sometimes birds or whatever else is turned in.   It's usually a very busy hustling, bustling place when combined with it's vet clinic on site.

Someone from southern WI just contacted us...I don't know if that was you or not, but EARPS/Happy Endings has transport to Chicago, IL every weekend for the next 10 weeks.  If you are not able to find what you are looking for near you, we may be able to send one your way.

Feel free to PM for more info
All of our rats are currently on Petfinder.com

I just wanted to let anyone know that I have found a neutered male!  I am fairly certain I am going to be getting him!  I am really excited...but anyway it was 124 to neuter Jake yesterday.  So if anyone lives in/near southern WI go to Dr Mike at the Janesville Vet clinic!

Thanks for all your help in helping me find a rattie for my sad Hopers! hello2

yeah I got him from EARPS.  They neuter their males and females before adopting them out.

I am getting JT.  There isn't a pic of him but he is a beige hooded, quite the cutie if I do say so myself!

I'll probably get in trouble for posting this here, but here's the big man!!

He was being kind of a grump when I took the pic.  He didn't particularly like humans at the time...I don't blame him, though.  He was found on the side of a road in a hamster cage  Angry

I just want to say that I adopted Bernstein from EARPS and the process was fairly simple and you can tell that they care about their animals.  Sarah was wonderful to work with and we love our new manrat to death.
