Hiiii! I have been lurking all around this forum for a while now, I just got my rat Templeton on Sunday.
I was planning to get a bonded pair, but I heard his story (he was abandoned, literally to the streets, by his previous owner because the novelty of a pet rat wore off. :[ he was rescued by the woman I adopted him from, but he had goten a terrible case of mites & had to go to the vet a ton. :[) and I just had to give him a home. SO later this week I'm going to be getting a cage buddy for him.

Anyway, the first thing I did after he got here was go out and get a Ferret Nation! I had only had his previous cage (the one that I was given by the rescuer) for a day (a 10 gallon aquarium with a cage topper) before I was frustrated with it. I couldn't even get to him when he was in the tank part! I had seen everyone's pictures here and totally fell in love with the idea of an FN!! It's not even close to anything you guys have done, but here are some photos, anyway. I'm looking forward to reading all the decoration tips!!! That's my only problem.. finding things to fill it with. Tongue

Here's the whole thing, like I said.. not much in there yet!!

I don't have a FN, but I noticed that everyone puts litter boxes in the same place - so the bottom of the ramp is sitting in them. Just wondering why that is? And did you all come to that decision separately or is there some kind of cult I'm not aware of?

I was thinking the EXACT same thing! Using it to hold the litterpan in place is a smart and simple idea. I tried to zip-tie my corner litter to the cage and within 3 minutes? it was untied. Yellow Cute Laugh

I looove the cage, Chelsey  Party!

I am about to charge the 141 (finally, should have bought it in the first place!) to my credit card. My fiance is so mad at me right now, lol. He said I should sell my other cages first, but with the economy the way it is, no one is even interested in buying my barely used rat cages right now at what I think is a decent price, bleh  .

Gunfire, you're so lucky! I think this year my birthday wishlist is going to consist of an FN 142. I love how much space there is to use, the big doors, that you can seperate the top and bottom, how easy it looks to clean, THAT THERE ARE LINERS DESIGNED FOR IT!! I want a pretty cage too [coughChelseycough]. Grin

New layout with my fancy schmancy liners Smiley What do you guys think?
They never go in the bottom except to run, so I never know what to put down there. I usually have a SP comfort wheel in but I put the wodent wheel in for tonight to trim their nails.
On the top is a fleece digging box I hung from the top. They haven't tried it yet but I thought it would be fun.
I also switched to Soft-Sorbent today because my dog Sadie has been having allergies and I think the Carefresh was not helping.

Been a long time since I posted the Brats' cage, mainly due to spending most of my time looking for a new job, losing one cat, and then losing another a few days ago.

I downsized from the 142 to the 141 for multiple reasons, and it's made for happier rats and a happier mother (mine, lol).  This picture only has three of the four as the fourth, Gaia, has been moved to a hospital cage.

Since money is tight this month, of course I discover that all their liners need to be replaced as some got mildewed while waiting to be washed (due to the loss of the latest cat the laundry was late being done) and others were so hole-y I've relegated them to being under-padding for liners as well as there being beetles in their food.  *sigh*  Gratefully, mom bought me three yards of this beautiful fleece, which I admittedly saved a yard for myself.

Anyway, they've got a fresh hammock I made this morning from a remnant in mom & I's fabric room, a tube from an old turtleneck of dad's as well as a few "pillows" filled with fabric scraps.  Their litterbox is filled with blue carefresh, unfortunately, since the corn cob I was using is all out so their cousins the Gerbils donated some bedding. Pure love... adopt a PEW

« Reply #1394 on: July 03, 2008, 08:41:25 PM »

I've been having so much fun lately redecorating their cage.  Its been so long since I've done much redecorating because I had old guys who liked things to be the same so they knew how to get to their favorite spots.  Teebs and Dribbles (now 2+) have always enjoyed having things rearranged but I didn't do much because cleaning three separate cages was such a chore.  Now I just put the two groups in different rooms and clean the whole thing at once.  SO much easier.  Anyway here are pics from today's fun cage decorating!

This looks a bit bare but there's a large igloo and a double decker in the back bottom that you can't see.  So they do have lots of things to snuggle in.

I hung the run about ball up and they really seem to like it

Here is mine after I cleaned it this week. I can't decide if I actually like the two shelves in one half. I am still deciding which I prefer. My camera died before I could finish taking photos, so this is all I have!

Not sure if they post to UK or not, but you could PM Scubbs and ask her. Her website is http://www.chelseyscozies.com/
Dearpie I believe is not taking new orders currently, so Scubbs (Chelsey) is the one to go for right now. You will love her stuff, and she has awesome fabrics! It will take you forever to choose one. Yellow Cute Laugh

My FN 141 should be on my front porch when I pull up home after work at approx. 6:00pm Arizona time  . I have all my newly sewn hammocks, toys, and bedding all out and ready to be hung up in the new cage.

Ahem...I am totally excited...can you tell? It's about time I got an FN. I should have ordered it 10 months ago, then I wouldn't have had to go through & sell 3 cages  Tongue.

We like purple  Tongue...

Reachthestars made a cool hammock/tube thingy, so I tried to make one as well for the boys to see how they like it. I probably have way too many hammocks in there for just 3 boys, but it looks very bare if you don't stuff the cage.
