I spot clean the cage every other day, which basically means completely cleaning the top portion of the FN, and sometimes the shelf on the bottom.  I fully clean the cage every 4-5 days  Smiley

Asha, you've got one of those little spaceship thingies (the green and yellow hanging thing). Sputnik I think they were called? I found one and my rats LOVE it but I can't seem to find anymore and the only ones I ever saw were blue.

Sleep?  What's that?  Yellow Cute Laugh

I'll get pictures next time it looks dirty!  But for the most part, even when it IS dirty, you can't really see it because I straighten things anytime I'm near the cage, and put poops in the litterbox.  Tongue

Hi all. I'm so excited, just got my first FN last night!  Hyper Found it on Craigslist for $100 bucks for the 2 story, it's in almost mint condition other than it was missing it's second story pan, but the guy I bought it from gave me a replacement that just needs to have a hole cut into it (I plan on making some fun slip covers for my trays with buttons keeping them closed off). That's convenient for me right now, as I have 2 young boys that are currently banished to the bottom until I can get the top portion wired like the bottom. Thought they were big enough not to squeeze through, boy was I wrong.  I have screen put up temporarily on the outside because I was too impatient to get everything set up, and I will be looking into hardware cloth. I may go ahead and hardware cloth the top and then switch them out while I work on the bottom. Little houdinis.  Roll Eyes  These ideas are awesome for cage decoration, I've already bought a lot of fun flannel prints for them. Yay! No more care fresh and yesterday's news lol. I had them in a 2 story super pet cage, but this is like a mansion. And it's also a good excuse for more ratties lol.  I will definitely be posting pics as I add goodies to their cage.

Hey Leslie Marie; what's the red stuff around the bottom?  Is that to keep crud from falling out?  I LOVE that idea!  Where did you get it and what is it HuhShocked

Cheerio: Congrats! That's an Awesome deal! =D

Oh!Rats!: I got the idea from a chinchilla/hedgehog forum. Alot of People who modify the FN's for their hedgehogs add this. =D  I bought some of those flexible cutting boards from the dollar store and cut them to size, and then weaved them through the bars. =D It took 8 of them to do the whole cage. xD So far it's helped extremely well to keep food and litter in the cage rather then on my floor, which is what I was hoping for.  Blue Dumbo Smile

help for all of those with FNs, puh-lease help! I modded the top half of my cage last night, worked out really well (other than the scratches I managed to give myself), used colorful & fun zip ties and hardware cloth this time on the inside (unfortunately I could only get the galvanized, and the people I encountered last night at Home Depot managed to deplete my brain cells while they were attempting to use their own Roll Eyes). I'm waiting to finish the bottom half before cutting a hole in the top pan for double teir access (also a decision from my fiance on if I can possibly adopt 2 more little monsters, the cage looks kinda empty with just my 2 boys in there  lol, and it would be nice to have the top and bottom separate for intros) How do you keep the cage clean in terms of um.....the visible? I am now using fleece, my boys seem to really like it. This is new for me since I'm used to CareFresh, as there are the visible...presents they leave me. There is no smell, and I don't notice urine, it's just the other  Shocked 2. My boys are messy....and more than just a little Roll Eyes. Any ideas on litterbox training? They have one, they just like to tip it over  . I am looking at everyone's set ups to see what may be more conducive for me, and may help with the mess. Any ideas? I will be making tons more hammocks now that I have the space (there just wasnt enough room in my superpet cage) and the little sleep pocket things too! Bought great print fleece at walmart, but I must say, there's definitely more fun stuff for girls

hmm.. My rats seem to have just trained them selfs.   What are you putting in your liter boxes?  I tried carefresh at first, but it was too easy for them to just tip over. So I switched over to yesterdays news, which is a nice heavy litter, and seems to stop them from doing it. =D
As for 'noticables'  I just go threw about twice a day a scoop up any if there is any, and put it in their litter box. My rats are to the point now though, that I usually don't have to pick anything up.  Yellow Cute Laugh

Thanks! I have yesterday's news in there, its new to them as I was using care fresh before. My boys are still young, so I guess that could be it too. I can appreciate that at least they only go in the cage. Thats a start  Blue Dumbo Smile

Oh god no  Tongue  You can get it at Ferret.com.  I have a couple of them, but the rats are quickly destroying them  Roll Eyes  Well actually, not as quickly as I thought, since there's always one or the other in the cage, and it's been that way for a couple months!

Halfway done cleaning -- I took the oh-my-god-so-gruesome dirty pics.  THE SHAME!!!

UGF -- I love the cage this time around!  Much more colorful  Cheesy

Okay, here it is for all to see!  Party

Why poop in the litter box when you can do it right outside it?

Showing the full extent.  The top shelf is the messiest part of the cage  Tongue

Plushie fish innards and more skewed poops that didn't QUITE make it to the litter box

The bottom, with hammocks and Waffle Block house removed.  The bottom half of the FN doesn't really get all that dirty.  They mostly just go down there to eat and sometimes hop on the wheel  Tongue

Oh god, poop in the hammock!

Then I took all the dirty towels, fleece blankets/scraps and hammocks out, and sprayed the cage down with a vinegar/water solution.  I let it sit for a few minutes and then wiped it dry.  I washed the cage accessories (litter boxes, igloo, Waffle Block houses, wheels) with soap and water in the sink.  Then I added fresh "rat linens," boxes, and clean litter pans  Wink

And finally, all is right with the world again!  It took me foreeeever to clean tonight, I think because I made so many new hammocks for my rats this past week that I couldn't decide what to use.  I kept putting something up and then taking it down  Tongue

Don't worry, a clean fish plushie was added after taking the pics.  God forbid they be without one  Roll Eyes

And there you go!  Happy now?  Cheeky

Not sure if this is the right place to ask, but since it's about FNs, maybe it is. I was wondering how people keep their fleece down in their cages, as well as what are the pattern sizes for your pans, trays and hammocks? If you don't want to share, I definitely understand, just looking to make my own (broke right now  Roll Eyes) Now that I have this room, I've got fleece down, the boys like it a lot more, but the lame hammock I bought definitely isn't cutting it, I want it out!!! It's horrible colors compared to the rest of my cage, and now that it's being used properly, I need to make them a good one like they deserve. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
