I love Ratties!

WWW
« Reply #60 on: March 07, 2007, 05:29:38 PM »

I am driving up to AZ twice in the next week, the first time is this Sunday morning, we will only be there Monday and we are driving back to CA. I am leaving again for AZ Wednesday March 14th for good. (hubby is coming back to CA I am not.)

If ratties are able to be brought up here to me I will take them to AZ and deliver them anywhere in the Phoenix area a few days after I get there.

Sorry but with the new baby, packing, and taking care of all the work it takes to buy the house and close thing out up here I don't have any time between now and next week to drive anywhere to pick them up.

Please though they need to have a home lined up in AZ already. I barely feel like I give my current 6 enough of my time right now and with the move it wouldn't get better for awhile.

Another bad part is we are gone for the weekend, so they would have to be brought to me on Tuesday before we leave Wednesday. Not a large window, sorry I haven't been keeping up on the stuff here!

Let me know if I can help!

I don't know if there is any chance of a train to Ohio, but on the off chance that someone is heading here, I am willing to adopt some rats. I can take in around 5 or 6 if needed. (I currrently have only one rescue at this time, and several empty cages.) I live in Findlay, which is in northwest Ohio, about 45 minutes south of Toledo. And I go to college in Athens, which is in southeast Ohio about 45 minutes west of Parkersburg WV. I can get them from either location. Except I can't drive, so if you go near Athens I might not be able to travel to get them. I hope I can help out. Feel free to e-mail me, or IM me if you're heading my way. (Or if you know of any other rats in my area needing adoption.)

We are busy putting together lists of people who are interested and are having another meeting this weekend to discuss our game plan and give everyone their last doses of ivermectin.

We've had 10 girls spayed at this point. The vet has agreed to do as many as they can work in one day a week. Tuesday another couple of cages will be going in.

Many thanks to everyone that has donated. Even the smallest amount is a huge help as it all adds up and we have our hands full with the cost of surgeries, food, bedding, and later transportation and transportation cages.

Hi, I'm an experienced rat owner in south western Montana and I'm able to take in 2 or 3 ratties.  I've only had males in the past but if you have an abundance of females, I'd be happy to take them too.  I have a soft spot for dumbos.  Is there any way to get them to within 200 miles or so of Dillon, MT?  If not, how much would shipping be?  Thanks and good luck!

justaredh- I think they were working on getting some to Idaho. I'm going home for a Rodeo in Washington so could probably pick them up from Idaho (I'm planning on getting up to 3 females) So if the person in Idaho is willing to hold (if they get any up here) yours and mine in Idaho. I can meet you somewhere between Idaho and Bozeman, MT for a pick up yours.

Add another Mainer to the list. It wouldn't matter what sex. I really like that peach colored rat with the white headspot and the blazed baby way down. I may be able to take 2 or 3.

Sorry to say, could you take me off the list? I just went to a fish store and they had feeder rats. Sad Unfortunately I'm too soft and wound up buying a momma and her babies.

I am still able to transport from Idaho and Washington to Montana the last weekend in April though if they can get up to there.

As some of you know I am on the lookout for a 2-3 month female spayed or not (sorry boys not a fan even if neutered)....i like all the solid colors and all of the variegated....dots, stripes, hey the tri colored looked interesting Hyper...i only am looking at 1 as a friend to little Brie....and actually...if given the choice....blue or cream solid....i like to have contrasting colors so that my mother can tell them apart when she talks to them and Brie is agouti hooded...

If you have a train coming through the midwest to Indiana I can meet and I can transport through the state if you need help....I am willing to go over towards Il and meet as far as Bloomington or down 70 into Effingham??? Let me know....cause I can then take a few over to the western Ohio area or up to Michigan or down to Louisville Kentucky area if needed....to meet the train for someone farther east...

Definitely let me know...

If I can rats to Reno will someone be able to get them into AZ? I can supply the 3 girls for Veggiegirl and probably others too. I have 10 rats already from OJai and I have found someone to house 20  more for me. We are picking them up directly from the "owner" tomorrow. Please email secondhandrats@aol.com if you can help transport any of these rats or adopt them or foster?Huh  I am located in San Bernadino County which is about 1/2 way between Ojai and San Diego.

I'm confused.  Are you helping Wee Companions place the rats?

Debbie, Wee Companions is already working on getting rats to AZ. Remember, Wee Companions has about 150 Ojai rats to place. We are compiling lists so we make the most of our transports and can move as many rats as possible in one trip.

Sounds great, so many posts its hard to tell what is going where. OK I won't worry about that then. When time permits I would like to know how they can deal with so many, a lot of foster homes, or someone with a lot of rats?  Also I cannot afford to get spays and neuters done at $200+ each rat, so I would like to find out how to get a vet to work with me on cheaper prices!  But that is for later, for now there are a lot of rats in need.

Just as an off chance....what would shipping be on some just to get them out to this area? it might be easier than trying to do a train although more expensive..

Edited for update:

Debbie from Secondhand Rats just emailed me a few minutes ago to let me know that she'll have three boys from this rescue tonight.  I'm not sure if she means she'll be delivering tonight or picking up tonight, but I wanted to update here.  I've emailed her for clarification and more information.  As I know more, you'll know more.

Thanks Debbie!   Smiley

Original post:

Okay so here's my update!

I had made plans to drive out to Ojai Humane Society to adopt three boys, and discovered to my irritation that the repair that was supposed to have been made to my van was, in fact, never addressed.  So I had to bring it back to the mechanic last Saturday, and it took him another three days to get it back to me.  I test drove it for a couple of hours and discovered that the repairs it needed STILL have not been made!!!!!   Angry

Furthermore, my roommate checked it out for me and crawled under the hood for a while and discovered that not only did the repair never even get made, but there were loose hoses and parts all over the place, and even a hose that had been replaced which we never asked to have replaced and were never told were replaced.

So right now I'm out $400 and still do NOT have a vehicle I can drive.  What makes me even angrier is that I knew exactly what was wrong with this frikkin' thing from the get go but because I have boobs nobody would listen to me, and I got called paranoid and all sorts of other names.

Well, sure enough, after my roommate checked it out he told me that the part I said had been bad all along was actually the part that was bad (and he's the one who called me paranoid!) and...well, that's where we stand now.  We took it back to my mechanic yesterday - who I've known for several years and who has ALWAYS been awesome - to complain about these problems, and discovered that due to a family emergency he's actually out of the country until next Monday.

So, I cannot drive this vehicle until it is repaired - the main problem is that there's a coolant leak, and the part that's bad and causing the leak also blows huge billowing clouds of highly toxic coolant smoke into the cab of the van.  So even if it could be driven, there is NO way I would transport any living creatures in it.  I'm stuck at home until my mechanic gets back and is able to finally make these repairs.

If anyone can get a rat train out to North Hollywood, where I am, I am ready, willing, and able to take three rat boys RIGHT NOW, today, this very instant.  I keep thinking of those poor babies in the shelter in Ojai and it's giving me high blood pressure.  I was so looking forward to adopting from there, I called the shelter to make sure of everything, etc., etc.

The babies dont have to be neutered, and I would dearly love to adopt a blue rat, but of course I will take any three baby boys who need a home.  If anyone can pick up from the shelter and deliver to me that would be IDEAL, of course - my main priority is to get those rats out of that shelter before they are euthanised!  All you wonderful folks who have been fostering so many of these rats are my heroes, but since they are in no danger with you I'd much rather take rats who stand directly in harm's way.  However, if you can let me have three boys out of your fosters so you can go to the shelter and take three out of there, that works just as well!  I dont even care - I just want to rescue rats who need homes most urgently.

There is another rescue I just learned of where I can adopt and someone will be able to get rats to me pretty quickly out of a high-kill shelter, but since I promised to adopt three rats from THIS rescue, this one is my first priority and so I thought I'd ask here first if someone can make a trip to me in the next few days, or something.

Not only is this urgent because of the death sentence these poor animals are facing, but also because my rat Bayberry is all alone now and he's really lonely, even though I work at home and have been with him every moment.  He even sleeps with me in his own special quilt.  But I can tell he misses his rattie companions and my heart breaks for him, so I want to get some friends in here as soon as I can.

Okay...so sorry for such a long post but it's been an insane week and I'm terribly anxious and frustrated because of this.  If it was just a matter of silly shenanigans with the van, I wouldnt even care...but it was SO imperative that I get this van fixed because of this rescue!  I've been desperately trying to get out to Ojai since I heard of this situation and it's like fate itself is stepping in and preventing me from helping out here.  I'll end here and hope hope hope someone can make it to me with three beautiful baby boys.

I'll keep an (obsessive) eye on this thread and also please feel free to email me at perilous@gmail.com as well.

Thanks so much for reading!!!

I'm not a regular on this board, I stumbled across this on the ratrescue forum, so if anyone wants to contact me please e-mail me directly sophielynette@yahoo.com as I might not remember to check here.

If any adopters or rattie trains happen to be within an hour or two of Cincinnati, OH I'd love to take a pair of boys or spayed females.  Coloring doesn't matter, but I'd prefer younger so that I can introduce them to my current boys more easily.  Once again, please e-mail me directly.

I have Ojai rats available once quarantine is done. Some in one week and some more in two weeks. There are about a dozen boys and an equal amount of girls, the girls will need an extra week to make sure they are not pregnant. There are also 8 babes from a litter so these will be very tame, blue, black and white, and a cream champagne color. So if you are too far for San Diego rats and are local to San Bernardino county or Riverside county ca, contact us. Otherwise please conside adopting a rat from Wee Companions in San Diego.  These rats are housed in Whittier, El Monte, Riverside and in Lytle Creek. This rescue has made me realize how hopeless these situations are. So many animals so few loving homes.  Breaks my heart. I have two big males that are dominant were injuring the others so they will be adopted out alone, one blue, one black berkish. More pictures up as soon as the slow Wild Blue satellite allows it

We will be sending rats to Las Vegas this weekend (Friday, March 16). The person who is coming to get them is more than willing to take some back for anyone else that wants them. If you're in Las Vegas and can take some Ojai kids, please let me know ASAP so we can put them on this transport.

We will be travelling to Phoenix, AZ and points in between March 26 or 27th.

We are also working on getting them up to Northern California via Bakersfield. Haven't confirmed a date for that yet.

If you are along any of these routes or at the final destinations, please let me know so we can get rats to you.

Please let me know what sex, age etc you are interested in. We can't guarantee that you will get a specific rat that is in any specific photograph, but will try our best to get you what you are asking for.

Thanks.

I will post photos as soon as I upload them from my camera. I took a lot yesterday.

I'm glad secondhandrats managed to get more. We are still contemplating taking more if we can get these kids moved. We have tons of very cute babies.

It seems the rat situation out there is pretty bad, there are still so many having babies, is there any kind of rat birth control that can be fed to them?  The girl I got yesterday has her litter and at least one tiny baby that is obviously not hers.  She has accepted it as hers, they are so darling. I expect she is probably already pregnant again. She is a huge girl too! A two hander.

Keep up the good work everyone, I wish I could do more but have to keep it realistic, cannot add to the problem. I am going to research the idea of birth control, I bet animal control would help fund if there was a way.  Hmm............
