Save a Life, Adopt a Homeless Pet...

« Reply #90 on: March 13, 2007, 10:35:33 PM »

I posted in the other section, but thought I would post here as well.  I am in Davis, CA, and work with the Solano County Animal Rescue Foundation.  We can take either 2-3 adults or a mom and litter.  I have a large cage that I can house them in until we adopt them out.  Menagerie said someone was going to be bringing rats to Fairfield, which is about 30 miles from me.

Is anyone addressing the fact that the farther east you can get transport (I have already offered to help) the more we can find homes for? Don't forget about those of us East of the Mississippi!

Thank you,

I'm in a southwest suburb of Chicago, about 1 mile from I80.   Would it be harmful to my own rats if I take and hold any coming this way if anyone wants to adopt from the Chicago area?  I'll gladly help, but don't know about the whole quarantine issue, if there is one.  I saw that a rattie train may be passing through Chicago directly on I80.

I posted in the other topic, but for some reason I didn't post here as well. I lived in the Kansas City area and could take 2-3 girlies older than 3 months.

I finally got around to editing photos. Here are a few of the rats running loose on the property.

If you look closely you can see the rats under the plastic licking the condensation off.

More photos of rats on the property can be seen HERE.

Here are some photos of the rats we have. Please note that I don't know who is who in the photos. I was just taking random photos. More photos can  be found HERE

The rats have been bored since being caged. So last week when we redid the cages, we added fun things. Here are a few of the old girls having a good time with their cookie stuffed grass ball.

Who can resist a bowl of babies?

Really, the only way of rats getting to the east coast (without shipping them), is if I brought litterally 50-100 ratties over from Colorado (assuming the Utah pick-up works out) to Chicago, and someone from the east picking up those guys from Chicago.  I do not have the housing requirements for that many rats, especially since I will be using my neighbors apartment.  If I could, I would bring as many as possible with me, but I just dont have the caging, food, or supplies for that many.

Hopefully a shipping arrangement would work, but it doesnt look like thats going to happen...

Perhaps several of us on the East Coast could all chip in and have them shipped to one person and arrange a rattie train that way.

Is it a cost per animal or per shipping container?

lol Don't be too upset over the 'oops,' ThePrincess3. Most of us are super rushed when we see so many rats in need of help and can offer it. So we don't always look for the answers immediately. We're too excited.

I wish I were as close as you!

Hmm you're in Canada, so to best describe it so you know about where... I'm in Eastern KY about 2.5 hours south of Columbus OH. I'm about 9-10 hours inland from the extreme East Coast and unfortunately, due to my work schedule, a trip that long isn't doable Sad I only have 1 day off a week.

I'm the one who drove from Las Vegas to San Diego for some of these rats, and I just have to say, if you are looking for a rat, there are some great rats at Wee Companions. There were so many great rats there. If I could have, I would have taken at least 4 possibly 5, but I could only take 2, and the two I got are so much more than I expected.

Fenella, the little champaigne (Gabrielle) rode on my shoulder and in my snuggle scarf til we got to Barstow, which unfortunately, was 8:30pm. The little blue (Persephone) is a bit more shy, and decided to stay in the carrier, but she did play with my fingers through the bars, when she wasn't sleeping. Now, she plays 'peek-a-boo' with me from my lap blanket. Both my present rats, Xena and Aphrodite have met them, and don't seem to mind. Things seem to be going so well, and I wanted to thank you, again.

I'm on Long Island and would pay in on shipping to NYC if people around here want to ship in some ratties, but I can't help transport as I don't drive.
