For most of the day yesterday and today Winx has been laying in her hammock, her sock or even on the bottom of the cage sleeping. She's usually running around if her cage top is off but not today. she likes to sleep in a small sock and when I start petting her sometimes she'll do a complete 180 turn and stick her tail out of the sock instead of her head and even now she's sleeping in the corner of the cage on a piece of tissue paper she arranged facing the corner with her back to me. Could something be wrong? She's usually not a very active rat but I'm just not used to this. I noticed she was cleaning her private parts which I have never seen her do yet...could she be pregnant? I got her about 4 weeks ago and at the time she was about 6-7 weeks old and was living in a cage with males and females.
I guess I'm just concerned. I know she's lonely and I almost can't wait to get her a cagemate but I'm afraid the cage is too small for both of them. But I really don't want to make the poor thing wait until Christmas when I would get a bigger cage for sure. What should I do? Could something be wrong?

Males and females... I would be very worried. I would hold off getting her a friend if she is pregnant you are going to have a lot of babies on your hands. Besides it is best to separate pregnant rats toward the end from their friends. We once had an accidental pregnancy and so we didn't separate and the mother became stressed and ate her babies, we found the heads a couple of days later  Cry

She may not be pregnant. She's gotten a little bigger since I got her but nothing drastic just from eating I figured. I won't get her a friend if she's pregnant I just don't know what to do now. She's trying to curl up more and more in a circle and has been yawning a lot. Maybe she's just tired...It's just not like her that's all...

If she's been away from boys for 4 weeks your chances of her being pregnant are slim.  Rats gestation is around 3 weeks.  It's possible for them to go a little longer, but if she's not showing any other signs I'd doubt it.

The sleeping can certainly be normal.  BUt it's also possible that it's a sign of another problem.  Is she showing any signs of illness at all?  Poofiness, red discharge from eyes or noce not eating, not drinking?

Good luck with her!

Some people are like slinkies..... They are not really good for anything... BUT they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down a flight of stairs!

Love a rescue rat and they'll love you back!

I've noticed my boy has been getting less active lately also.  I figured it was probably from the weather.  He may also be lonely but he doesn't get along with other males anymore so he has to settle for just me.

Hopefully she will perk back up with a roomie now.
