Hi,

I have done a search on sneezing and have found hundreds of results and all were helpful.  I just want to know when I should worry about my girl's sneezing.  She has done it since I brought her home.  It was worse at first but it seemed more of a nervous thing then an illness.  She only sneezes every once in a while now and she is very active, eatting and drinking.  I have never heard her cagemate Tessa sneeze and they have been together for a month now.  I am assuming that because Tessa is not sneezing then Ruby may just have a nervous habit, or allergy and not something infectous.

What are signs that it is something serious?
Should I take her to the Vets anyway?

Thanks

As you might've noticed from all your research, sneezing can be the preliminary signs of an upper respiratory infection.
Because this infection is closely tied to the health of the immune system, secondary bacterial infection, mycoplasmas, -- it is possible for one cage mate to be more affected or one to not be affected by an URI

If the sneezing continues -- I'd take her to a vet.  In many cases it's a good idea to get a new-ratty exam in -- either to check out problems or get a baseline get acquainted healthy visit.

Good luck  Smiley

I have made an appointment with a local vet, who works with Rats for next week.  I am not too worried, but if it is a respiratory infection then I want to start treating it sooner rather then later. I will let everyone know how it goes. Keep your fingers crossed.  Oh and the vet only charges $29 for a check up on rats!!!
