Thank you!  It's so nice to have the measurements ahead of time.  I'm terrible at figuring it out myself, no matter how simple and straightforward it is.

I wanted to ask if you all folded the cut ends of the wire over.  We did this when we were making the travel cage, and it was the biggest pain in the butt ever, and they catch on everything.  My sister helped me with it.  She's so sweet and long-suffering that I'm sure she'd help even if it meant folding wire over for 5,000 hours again, but it would be nice if we didn't have to.  Would the rats probably be fine if we just cut the ends very short, since they'll only be at the edges?  Even if the hardware cloth is placed on the inside?

You got plastic mesh?  the ratties will chew right thru that. you need wire but it can be plastic or pvc coated.

They're connected with a ramp, but you can separate the 2 levels by swinging the ramp up and hooking it.

the floor has thw same 1"x5" wire but is covered with a thick plastic pan.

Just a note that, if you have rats small enough to need hardware mesh on the cage, you probably will want to cover the bottom (part that goes under the pan) as well.  It's the same dimensions as the pieces for the top and back.  Someone here lost a rat not too long ago when she somehow got under the pan and got her head stuck between the bars.   

The pan is designed with a opening that matches the opening in the wire floor.

I know this is for the Ferret Nation but does anyone know how much hardware cloth would be needed for a Feisty Ferret cage. I plan on ordering the cage
and putting my three girls in there. 2 (9.5)week olds and one 5 week old (they took mom too soon). My eldest are getting pretty big fast. I know my youngest is still small.
But they need more more space. I have a temporary setup sterlite setup with homemade built mesh lid and mini fan outside for those stuffy days.

Measurements or a hint to the thread would be nice I hope to get the cage soon next week or two.

I have recently bought the Ferret nation cage for my 2 girls.  I am going to modify it the same way that you have done - but I can't find PVC coated hardware cloth.  The stores around me only carry "bare" galvanized wire.  Would this be ok or is it more likely that they will hurt themselves on it.  Help would be appreciated    By the way I live in Vancouver, Canada so some of the stores in the States we don't have up here.

Psst.  Does it matter?  You can just turn the hardware cloth to make it fit the other way!

I don't think you need to modify the FF cage. It's bar spacing is 1/2 inch. My babies are small and they can't get through 1/2 bar spacing.
