www.petshed.com It australian based company i believe. It says you receive the product within 4-10 business days in the u.s. and they sent me a shipping confirmation the same day i ordered. I'm impressed with the service so far. Now to wait for the product.

http://www.canadavet.com is another place you can get it, if you're in the US it might be faster/cheaper to go with a Canadian distributor than one in Australia.

a quick ?...how heavy do your ratties have to wight normally to constitute as heavy enough? 2 of my girls are 5 months old, and one of them is about 8/9 weeks, maybe more (she looks older, but still young) they all seem rather small though, each can fit in your hand with room to spare (but not all 3 at once of course! Wink ) Are they too young? what would you recommend?

Do you mean heavy enough to be treated with Revolution? It's more by age than by their weight. Very young rats, such as those still nursing, shouldn't be treated individually. My vet told me anything after 5 weeks was good, but that with the younger rats you might want to really measure out the dosage instead of winging it.

As with any situation, I would suggest taking your rats to the vet and getting them looked over. Your vet may have suggestions/exact dosages that they prefer to follow for younger rats.

>>I thought about going and getting some ivermectin from the feed store, giving it to my other 7 rats, disinfecting/cleaning their cage, and then in 2-3 weeks dose them with one dose of revolution. What do you think. (I realize everyine will say go to vet, but i have done that already). What would you do? <<

Well if it were me I would do exactly what you said here. I have been using it for years successfully and nothing to it!

I prefer this myself as I have a sensitive nose to the smell of the revolution. I have both now.

I measure the Ivermectin (size of the raw grain of rice) and put it on my finger then smear it on their teeth. they lick it off and no rats mind it. I have been doing this for 20 years now. I do it once for 3 weeks to break any cycle and get any internal ones too. It cost me !8. Canadian at a feed store and keeps in a dry place too. I have done 23 rats for that price. Still have some left.  Smiley

If you get rat fleas then Revolution is better for them. There is Ivermectin in Revolution from what I heard.
A lot of vets don't know about the Ivermectin for rats in the syringe yet.

if revolution takes care of the problem and involves less cage cleaning and worry about transmitting mites, why do people bother with the ivermectin? I wish i knew about it with my older rattie...we spent a MISERABLE 3 weeks of forcefeeding (which did NOT endear me to her) twice a day, and MULTIPLE cgae cleanings and scrubbings, which ALSO upset her (she got very upset when her cage was switched around on her)...if all it would have taken was a dab on the back of the neck, I wish i had just done that instead....also, revolution is cheaper...for 32$ i take take care of the problem, rather than 49 for the vet to even GLANCE at my gilrs, then 15$ for all 3 to get scrapings, then another 15$ each for the meds and then the next 3 miserable weeks....am i missing something, cause this seems to be a no-brianer as to which i'd choose....hope i'm not missing something   Huh

bug.dragon, Ivermectin can be bought very cheaply and dosed without your vet being involved.  That's why a lot of people use it.
I am a Revolution girl myself for ease and effectiveness.

Before we were able to get the Revolution, we used Ivermectin paste.  Just put the dose on a piece of bread, covered it with a dab of jam and its snacktime.  Even with Revolution I still like to do a through cleaning, but then I could be a little compulsive in that regard.

Haha! Exactly! I'm lazy, and I don't like to leave room for any human error which is very possible with ivermectin. Revolution is my bestest friend. Smiley

I got my revolution today! YAY. Now to dose the girls tonight. All 9 of them. Although the mites seem to be gone, better to be safe than sorry!
