Here it is!  I took 77 photos of Gen-Mai's and SnowDragon's Kiddos today and the results are in!  Individual photos of the kiddos are ahead!  Tomorrow will be a much smaller shoot of Bee's chunky girlies!

I'm trying to learn.  I was hoping you could help me out by answering four questions that popped in my head after seeing you gorgeous pictures.
1)  Can you please help me understand what it means to be "Satin."  Your babies are perfect.  I'd love to snatch them all up but the word satin makes me think of something shiny and I don't quite see that...is it just the photo.  What does it mean when a breeder says, "Satin"?
2)  The first photo of yours here that I copied shows a beautiful animal that has the thickest coat.  Wow!  Is that trait called something in particular?
3)  Some of your babies are called Double Rex.  I thought the Double Rex were the Nekkid babies.  Are your babies called Double Rex because both their parents are Rex's?
4)  What is the difference between a Rex and a Double Rex.  I'm just trying to learn the lingo.  Your baby pictures are so cute.  Please answer.  Sincerely, Anne

Hi Anne,
Satin is a recessive gene.  Both of these rats parents carried the satin gene thus many of the pups express this gene.  Here is the Satin standard as it is written on the RSA website: "The ideal coat has a unique and distinct appearance with its lustrous sheen.  The coat is thinner and longer-looking.  The hair should be fine to the touch.  The satin coat has a sparkling look on some colors".  When the satin gene appears by itself the pups have an oily look about them and wavy, curled whiskers that eventually straighten out with age.
However, when satin is combined with other genes, such as the rexing genes - you can see what interesting things happen!

Double rex rats can be produced from 2 rex parents, yes.  They always have a coat come in (though often a unique looking coat!)- some molt more than others, some maintain a layer of peach fuzz while some are almost hairless.

Each of the photos are labeled as to what the pups are.  There are no other "fancy" terms for them really...just the ones listed on the pictures  Wink  I'm glad you like them!!

I have to admit that you have good taste Dee.   Yellow Cute Laugh
And the dumbos don't even need to be mentioned  ...I am sure all those babies would be soggy if all the kisses that make it to the various computer monitors were real.

Looking at these little darlings, all that comes to mind is Midnight, Storm and Cloud, don't ask me why.

The current pics of Gen-Mai's darlings are just to die for, I really miss not having an agouti in the house, of any colour/ticking

*silently pockets a couple of agouti ratties and slinks off*

I know I've been slacking on the baby photos, but these days it is lucky if I can find my cameras!  My girlfriend of 15 months (we have been friends for 11 years) have officially moved in together.  Turning my bedroom into an office, turning a living room into something that was once...well...much different looking.....the house has been in a state of upheaval.  Only the rat room is untouched (and they are happy about that!).

So here are a few candids of Gen-Mai's pups at 4 weeks!  I promise more to come now that I can see the floor again..  It turns out I have 2 double rex satins AND 2 double rexes  Cheesy
